Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

I did this mod today and reset ECU. Will drive around for a few days to let things tune in. It should work well with my 3" Magnaflow system. With the exhaust it seems like I lost some low end. It is hard to tell because of the weather. I have only had the truck less than 2 months. It was cold and clear when truck was stock. Been raining ever since I put exhaust on.

The weather makes a huge difference in how much power the engine makes.
For example: I had a '64 Buick Electra 225 Convertible 360 HP. It did 0-60 in 6.2 seconds. On a cold clear night (ie:high pressure, dry air) It would do 0-60 in 5.3 seconds. That is a huge difference.

So as soon as it quits raining I will be able to really tell if the mods I have done really help (short of going to the dragstrip or dyno).

The next mod I will do is put 20,30,40k on the truck. My '87 Nissan hardbody took 40k before it would pull strong to redline.

power basics: Synthetics, high pressure, dry air, well broke in drivetrain, warmed up drivetrain (50 miles freeway), lots of mods.

Kind of got off track here, thanks for listening

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

Holding off on this mod till my service manager gets me the full coverage XE fender liners for my SE. If you stick the left front and spin it, water will get up to the air box intake. I guess thats what the extension inside the air box is for, to deflect any water thats sucked in to the bottom of the air box.

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

I did this mod back around july or august of last year ( i cut the snorkel about 1 1/2 inches from the end with a hacksaw ). I also put the K&N drop-in filter right after I did it.

To date no adverse problems whatsoever.

Still have that nice added growl when WOT.

Never have done a dyno so I dont know if it made any performance gains/loses. Never have done an ECU reset... but I'm considering doing it just for the halibut. Isnt going to hurt anything.

I'll replace the exhaust before I get a CAI.

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

OK here is my report after the mod. WoooooooooHoooooooooo!!! The intake sound at full throttle is as loud as the exhaust in the cab. She pulls better at part throttle and revs out better now.

Good mod to do in conjunction with exhaust.

Thumbs up Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

My update. Seems as if once in motion winds up faster. Cant really tell of the line but the mid to upper range feels more beefy but then again some people think they can feel there car running better after an oil change.

After that, then and only then, will I do the airbox mod

I want to know more!! Aggie and clash, along with others including The Head, let me know as scientists what you think. No butt dyno's please. Im hungry.
By the way. When everyone that complained about a concentration of debris at the bottom of thier filters, and did the stock tube mod checks thier filters in a month or so notices a biuldup at the top of thier filters. Dont say that i didnt warm you.
WTF im not over 16 what is that.are you trying to say that i cant own a titan.

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

I just did the mod. I can tell that there is definately a improvement. After about full throttle all around my block with a big smile on my face : ) I noticed that it will pick up a a lower throttle setting now. I can't wait for my ECU to adjust aswell. The noise is definately throateir now, the only downside to this mod that I can for see is lower gas milage because i am gonna be on the throttle a lot more ; )
Thanks for the mod!

Just noticed your response to me.

Well, since the driving age on public roads in the United States is 16 years of age, I would say that there is no reason for you to have a Titan.

BTW, based upon the way you present yourself here I wouldn't have guessed you were a day over 13.

Re: DIY - Air Box Mod

Done.. Used my mitre saw to cut the tube

Total time about 20-25min including clean up.

I didn't notice much more "noise" other than the gulp of air it can now suck in at once when you open the throttle quickly.

Hi there, I live in the Jackson School subdivision close to Glencoe High.
Lets have a beer together some weekend if you want.

Also, check out the Pacific Northwest forum.
