I'm still running this intake and am very pleased with performance, the addition of a drop in K&N panel filter along with exhaust mods (removed resonators, and replaced stock layout with 2.5" dia pipes from cats back to single 3" through free flow muffler to tailpipe) took my crew cab LE 4x2 from just barely beating crew cab hemi's to out running regular cab hemi's!!!
Don't have a track nearby, time or money to spend on testing like other lucky members, so the comparisons I can make are purely street results (rolling 20-30 mph start...) The resonance from the 'hillbilly volant' isn't that objectionable during daily driving but the 'whoosh' sound of the air sucking in when you nail the throttle is nothing short of awesome!

I broke down and also performed the "ghetto air box mod". Man, that freaking snorkel is IN there! I broke quite a few plastic pieces trying to pry it out, but its all good.
Anybody wants to do it, i strongly recommend a dremel with the cut off wheel attachment. Like a hot knife through butter...

Did you take out the whole airbox! If you take out the whole airbox it comes out really easy!
I think everyone should do this mod.

Something i would really like to do (for aesthetic purposes) is to remove that ugly square looking thing that the valve cover breathers attach to.
I was thinking of cutting the piece off, then getting a "Y" and just making the hoses longer and connecting them to the Y and then somehow threading the Y into the intake tube, but it would require sealing up the other holes on the tube, probably wouldnt work too good. any ideas?
Yeah, thats the key, holding both tabs down at the same time. Im probably too impatient. Oh well, the plastic pieces that broke off will save me some weight, therefore increasing performance!
I did this mod today, without taking the box out. I just used a regular kitchen knife and a propane torch. Heat the knife and slide it around the plastic. No plastic dust particles to clean up and it took 10 minutes. Plus you get nice clean smooth edges. Have not drove it since and could care less about the numbers, dyno, dragstip crap. All I know is that my air filter had dirt in one spot before, for an obvious reason, and this will definitely help. If you increase the surface area of a filter you will decrease the resistance across the filter and increase flow. Plus, a shorter tube for a flow of anything through it, including air, will produce less resistance, its just simple physics 101. I don't think that it would add up to much numbers wise, but you never know.
A torch and a butter knife? ill be damed. Pretty ingenious. I did it for the same reason you did, the filter dirty in one spot would indicate a poor initial design. its all about noise reduction for the engineers.
I drove it and didnt notice any difference at all, hoever I didnt get on it heavy yet.
