i was able to jump a wire on my tacoma to make the rear locker work all the time. it worked great there were no ill effects from it, no 4x4 light or anything like that. it just made the locker circuit think that it was in 4low all the time. has anyone done this on there titan yet? i'm sure it can be done, it'll just take some time and a good wiring schematic to figure out.
might be a little hard on the differential. I guess it just depends how they accomplished the lock and if the diff will slip a little or not.If its fully locked up your askinf for trouble

This would be nice for when you are in 4x4 high, and need a little extra traction though. Would this cause problems with the Active Brake Limited Slip???
Wow, good point. I put a locker in my Jeep, I wonder if it is an easy addition to the Titan's rear diff. Was a piece of cake on the Jeep's rear axle, maybe 30-45 minute install and not really knowing what I was getting into.
It would be nice to go blasting across the sand in my 2wd, without having to swap on a $1000 pair of paddle tires. Also would be nice to stop doing one legged burnouts at the track.
sorry i should have said that it makes the switch work in 2high and 4high. i wouldn't want it to be locked all the time.
RealJimbo....the switch only works in 4low
That last post of mine looks bad.. mean to say. I was able to add something from a Quadratec catalog to the rear diff to make it into a locker. Still wondering if this is available for the Titan. Was easy and cheap, would save me from having to dig myself out in front of the laughing Ford owners.. how embarassing.
Why is it that offroad package with 4x2 have a diff lock and if you get 4wd it needs to be in 4 lo to lock?
The 4x2 Off-Road pkg. does not have the E-LOCKŪ. The 4x2 Off-Road pkg. was offered both on 4x2 Titans, and on some of the SE 4X4s as well. So those particular 4x4s, even though they have the Off-Road pkg. do not have E-LOCKŪ. And if they have the Big Tow pkg. then they have Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), a.k.a. electronic stability control.
A 4x4 with the 4x4 Off-Road pkg. has E-LOCKŪ, and front and rear wheel Active Brake Limited Slip, (ABLS). But even with the Big Tow pkg. they do not have VDC.

The Titan Owner's Manual, (p. 5-22), states that the maximum speeds for 4WD are approximately: 4H = 62.5 mph; 4LO = 31 mph, [must stop, and shift into neutral to go into 4LO]; and with E-LOCKŪ engaged, 12 mph maximum (p. 2-30). [Must stop or be going less than 4 mph to engage E-LOCKŪ].
Driving faster than this, or on dry pavement, can damage drivetrain components. Since this is less than half of the maximum speed when using 4LO alone, I would think this would ruin the differential, and very quickly.
