Royal Purple Motor Oil

My Titan has 1,400 miles and I'm waiting until 2,000 to make the change. Royal Purple recommends to wait until 2,000 miles after the break in period. They claim a 3% increase to HP. Should bring the HP to 308, maybe... Most people claim Mobil 1 Synthetic is the best??? Is there anyone that has tried Royal Purple? Pros and Cons would be awesome as I still got 600 miles left to decide.

I'm a Redline guy, will be heading there as soon as break-in is done...

I used Royal Purple in my Explorer. I had the motor completely rebuild by a professional racing shop. After break-in, I used the Royal Purole as this is the brand they used in their dragsters.

I ended up adding a quart before the 2000k mark. There was no leakage or burning either. Also, this oil is more expensive. I finally switched to Mobil 1 and didn't have the problem. Oh, it was the same SAE.

For my money, I'd go with Mobil 1.

I've used it in my last truck and loved it. Truck seemed to perform better all around( better gas milage, ran very smooth, ran tip top). I plan on putting Royal Purple in the Titan as soon as I can everywhere, trans, diffs, motor, ect.

Thanks for the info. Was your last truck a Nissan too? And how often did you change the oil?

No sir it was a 2001 Toyota Tundra. Had the TRD Headers and TRD Exhaust and some other small mods so it performed better than your average Tundra.

I would allways change the oil around every 5000 miles or so. I couldn't stand waiting any longer even though some that have done analyasis on the RP reported you could go further.

All the blackstone lab results did not show good results with Royal Purple. Royal purple is only a temp solution for track driving. But its not good for 3k intervals or greater. It starts to break down fast.

Go with Mobil 1, Amsoil, or Redline. Nothing beats Amsoil though.

I know there was some early shearing issues in the past however was under the impression RP has addressed those issues and resolved them.

Go here and do a search: Royal Purple

I've read however their race oil is suppose to be some of the best hands down...

I'm a die hard Amsoil guy myself. After running a 1 year/16,500 mile interval in my former Dakota, as well as a 1 year 7500 interval in my Ram, i'm sold.

I use the more expensive Series 3000 5w-30 oil in my vehicles. When my Titan makes 2000 miles (currently under 400) I'll switch to Amsoil.

It's important to understand that race oils, no matter how good the are, are not recommended for street use. Why? Because they don't have the additive package that all other street oils do.

I attended a seminar on oils by Kendall, they talked at length about the additives used by various manufactures. About 85% of an oils chacteristics are determined by the additives, not the base stock. These additives include anti-foam agents, rust inhibiters, viscosity stabilizers, and agents to help hold dirt particles in suspension, along with others.
Most of these are missing from race oils, Why? because race engines only need to run for a little time, even if its for a 5oo mile race, the engine gets re-built after each race, does you stock engine ?

They make better street oils now then ever before, stick with those...

I totally agree w/ you, I'm not sure if you thought I was inplying that we or I should use race oil instead of street oil. Absoultly not. Not a good idea...

Some guys don't know the difference between race & street, and think just because somebody runs stuff on Sunday, they should run it in their street car.
It was a FYI thing...

Thanks for the Amsoil info. This is the first I've ever heard of that oil. Looks like I will be going with the Amsoil as it beat Mobil 1 on all the tests. Thanks

Here's the test data:
