Got new Duals- VERY HAPPY (Attn N Ga people)

Went to Acworth Muffler loaded with what I gleamed from this site.
Acworth Muffler is a lil, locally owned place that you'd probably drive past a million times and never think of stopping there. You know more than one junked car out back and a pitbull sleeping out front. But it was recommended to me by a friend so I went there to get new tips put on the Ford I traded in. When the guy measured the tips a dozen times during assembly and welding (to make sure they were completely symetrical) I KNEW I'd be a repeat customer.

Called ahead and got Craig (owner of the shop) to order a Magnaflow 5X8 / 2 1/4 double in / double out an an X pipe. He keeps most of the Flowmasters in stock but can get anything else within a day. Hour and a half after he called and said it was in I walked out with one sweet, well done, perfect sounding dual exhaust!

After seeing the muffler internals I didn't use the Xpipe... it has one built in. The 2 1/4 aluminized pipe comes right off the resonator, into the muffler which is hanging at the stock location and then out the duals which are hung from rubber mounted brackets that were tacked to the frame. The left exhaust snakes over the axle, between the spare and the brake lines and then exits to mirror the right one.

Welds are beutiful. Watched the whole process. Worked with me through 3 different "let's see how it looks" for the tips and never batted an eye. It's magic how these guys can think in 3D and transfer it to their pipe bender. Everything is a perfect fit and beautiful! Puts those pics from the "unhappy" thread to complete and utter shame!

Alllll for the LOW LOW price of $341.25!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WITH the rolled tips.
If you head up there tell him Huey (the guy with the racebikes) sent ya!
Acworth Muffler Shop 5000 Lake Acworth Dr (770) 975-4562
They're West of I-75 on 92 after it turns right to head across the lake.

Here's how I positioned the tips. No copying please!!! Hahahaha

I recorded it via the movie mode on my camera and I really don't think it does it justice.

At cruise at any speed up to 80 you hear windnoise more than the motor. Under hard acceleration the sound of the airbox and the Bullit-esque Vroodrorordodrorododororor are almost perfectly matched. At idle with the windows rolled up you can drown out the "blub blub blub" of the exhaust with Bare Naked Ladies on 8 on the stock stereo.

With VDC off and me standing on it my Dad said he heard me 3 blocks away on busy 37th Ave in Savannah Ga.

I'll take some underneath pictures tommorrow.

Nice!

At first, I thought it said very "UN"happy, so I started reading and thought "Why would he be unhappy?"Then I re-read the title.....

Congrats on the exhaust though!

I would love to hear it...My biggest worry about an exhaust are the highway miles I drive...I need to make sure it is not too loud for all my driving.

Of course, it helps that I am only 5-10min away from Acworth Muffler.

Any opinion on side outs (like you have) vs. straight out the back? Diff sound or performance?
thanks, Nik

I pull a white race trailer so straight out the back into the dead space isn't an option for me. It'd eventually paint the front of the trailer black.

As a preference I also don't like straight out the sides just from an asthetic point of view. Purely a preference. I think I got the best of both worlds. I think the only thing that would really change the sound from the cab would be turnouts in front of the wheels like a NASCAR truck...

Nik we'll meet and I'll let you listen to mine. I will tell you a friend of mine in Woodstock is calling to get his done next week. He rode in mine today and said that he thought it droned LESS than stock. He said the reverberation was gone (I don't know if that was a real word).

I'm actually heading out to take some pics of the install now. Annnd I'm back:

Ouch crimped pipping is the worse. You may have lost HP from that.

nice welds--that 5x8 is a very nice (nice rumble an power) muffler--I had one, I know have a 5x11 ( I miss the 5x8--wifey doesnt--I lost-- )

now all you need is an intake and your titan will spin the tires off the start ( my seat of the pants torque test)

I have always seen crimped piping is what most shops do if they are doing a custom setup with aluminized piping. did you get madrelbent pipes on your setup??

Very nice system, Craig! I'm impressed w/ the work they did between the resonators and the muffler, very clean and straight!

As for "crimped" piping vs. mandrel, on any modern day engine either way you will benefit from the free-er flowing system installed. You won't lose horsepower due to it, since anything will be even a slight improvement over a stock system, and a small block pushing 305 hp at the crank isn't forcing enough CFM's through the exhaust to recieve the full benefits of a muffler-back exhaust system. Throw on a set of long tubes and delete to resonators from the exhaust, you'll notice more of an improvement of course.
It's more important to have the correct exhaust pipe size due to rertain decent exhaust velocity rather than have mandrel bends. Although I do agree they produce a very clean system, the benefits will be minimal, if any, over "crimped" tubing
Just my $.02!
