A little something from AEM.....

If you check the www.aempower.com site you will find that the titan CAI is now up on there and it says coming soon. Thats better than it not being on there at all like it was not long ago. I dunno if this was posted but here's the dyno they have attached to it.

Yeah, that is quite a dip at around 3100.... hopefully a dyno-ing error
I don't want to believe that the AEM loses 35hp and 55ft lbs right off the line.

I like AEM products but after looking at the HP/TQ graphs for the Dodge and Ford, I say that the Titan graphs are bogus. For instance, the Ford (5.4L) graph shows a gain of 11hp but the peak stock and peak with AEM are both 223.2hp@4100 (yes typo's). I could see the intake gaining 1-5hp but I don't is gaining 17hp, our stock intake insn't that restrictive.

i believe it....

i came from the VW community and when Injen came out with their intake for the 1.8Turbo motor, they claimed a 12hp gain. This prototype was set up, tested, and dynoed on my friends car, he saw it with his own eyes. This turned out to be a huge flame fest all over the forums. People started sticking their feet in their mouths once they saw other cars dyno numbers proving them wrong.

Anyways, intakes are all about what filter you use. and imho, K&n makes a filter that is far from performance by any means, it just a step up from stock.

i think some people just need to be a little more open minded because those numbers are very possible.

So since AEM uses a K&N filter does this mean that their products should only be a step up from OEM?

IIRC, AEM makes their own filter, as does Injen as well as many other after market intake manufactures. It wouldnt make sense to sell a piece of your competitors product on your product.

yeah, its a k&n type filter (looks like a k&n), but its not made by k&n.

i may be wrong (i am sorry if i am) but this is something i remember i was told awhile back.

Heck I might be wrong in thinking that it was a K&N. Mine looked just like a rebranded K&N and at one point an AEM rep "supposedly" told a customer to use the K&N recharge kit to clean it since it's the same product. Now you have me wondering.

I was told the same by Injen for my VW intake, you can use their recharge kit because its basicly the same material, but the air flow is a whole different story.

If you think the horsepower loss is concerning around 3000 rpms, scroll down again in that pdf again and take a look at the torque curve- yikes.

I think it may be believable....On my rsx the CAI from injen net'd around 15-20 whp <---this is not lie, check www.clubrsx.com for dynos. Remember guys, if you read on the AEM site they use a throttle body plate on some applications if it helps and they might have put it in the titan kit. Also, our intake system is restrictive......i mean look at the baffle further up the intake pipe right by the breather hose, this is to reduce noise yet it adds restriction. I think the AEM with signifcantly improve the intake velocity thus neting good gains. As for the dip in the graph it looks as if they got off the throttle for some reason. All in all this will be a mod to get me until they release a supercharger for this beast.

Well, from experience in the FBODY world of V8s, Intakes do gain alot.

Just by me replacing my Intake LID on my TransAm, I went from 287 hp to 314 hp. YES you read that right. The lid was swapped, a WHISPER MAF was also put on (not a electronic maf, but smoother ends that attach to the maf) gained this much HP. A V8 can gain so much from a intake design its not funny.

My Maxima gained 15 hp from a CAI from Place Racing when I had it. Dynoed right afterwards.
