Which is quieter....Volant or K&N??

Considering purchasing the Volant intake. I had the K&N fipk on my Tundra, but removed it after about 25K miles. The high freq air noise really got irritating after awhile, especially under light throttle.

Does anyone have experience with using both of these intakes on any vehicle, and if so, do you think the Volant (or any other intake) is any quieter than the fipk, or is this just something you live with if you want the few extra hp it will deliver?

Thanks,
Steve

I have just installed the Volant and the sound is very throaty when you get on it. Otherwise it just sounds stock. It reminds me of a vet sound when you step on the gas. I still have the stock exhaust, but plan on changing that here directly. Hope this helps.

With the Volant you will hear the signature CAI noise when you romp on it, like an initially loud sucking noise followed by the throaty grumble that Scarab was talking about.
With the first version of the intake, I had alot of resonation at certain RPMs, but after Joe sent me the neoprene seat (that the box rests on... this sticks to the top of the fender) and the new bolts for the air box, everything is much tighter and there isn't any more vibration or resonation.

Awesome, guys. Sounds like most everyones happy with the V2 Volant. I don't mind the noise when romping on it.....that's when I WANT to hear it. What was drivin me bonkers was that high freq sucking, almost whistling, sound I'd hear under very light throttle with the FIPK on the Tundra. Got tired of everyone asking me "hey man, what's that wierd sound yer trucks makin?"

Also, the Volant looks more factory and seems better quality for less money than the K&N.

I swore I wasn't goin down the "new intake and exhaust road" with my Titan, as I did with my Tundra, but what can I say...........guys/gals love their trucks, and we just can't leave 'em alone! I think if this engine made 600 hp stock, we'd still be trying to wring a few more ponies out of it. God love the tweaker!

Thanks,
Steve

RMT, Save your money, If you had a CAI on your YOTA, you know the only thing that you gain is a lot of noise!!!! There is however a VERY SLIGHT improvement in 0-60 time. It however is caused by the LIGHTNING of the WALLET!!!!!!!After the purchase!!!! You can gain the SAME results by searching through the threads here and find the one on MODING the stock airbox!!!!

Got any proof that this does the EXACT SAME THING?!? Produce some dyno numbers for us.

LOL! Drags, you are right about the "lightning" of the wallet thing. Ford shouldn't be the only manuf to own that title for a truck. I should add my own "lightning" badge to my Titan right next to the 5.6 badge, just so everyone will ask me "hey....didn't know Nissan made a "lightning" model. How come they call it that?" And my answer would of course be "cause every time I turn around, I experience "lightning of the wallet!!"

Anyway, I do still plan on installing a CAI and exhaust on this truck because......well, I have to! In fact the Aero-turbine muffler is on its way. And I'm leaning towards the Volant because it is a true CAI, unlike the K&N.

One expensive mistake I made on the Tundra was re-doing the entire exhaust with headers, true duals w/ x-pipe, cats, mufflers and tailpipes. Talk about wallet lightening! Sounded nice, but saw minimal gains.

This time, however, I'm gonna try to dyno before/after I install new intake and exhaust. My brother and his corvette buddies (all '64 to '67s) are doing a dyno run soon, and they've asked me to come along. Should be fun. We're racing for pink slips afterwards.............yeah, right!

Steve

By the nature of its' design I think that the Airaid intake may be quieter than Volant or K&N.
