Today I got my Volant and installed it. It is a terrible fit. The mounting holes dont line up properly and the hole that is suppose to line up with the air hole in the fender is completely offset leaving a big gap. There was no foam pad included with it either. I finally got it wedged in as best I could and started it up to see the difference. IT MADE MY TITAN LESS RESPONSIVE!!! I used to be able to just tap the gas and be pushed back in my seat. Now it wont even put me back in my seat at all. I took it out on the highway to see if it made any difference there. It seems like its having a hard time reaching 65mph without a lot more gas than usual. I am thinking Im gonna send it back for a refund unless you guys have any suggestions. Thanks in adavance for your help.
i had the same problem. it sounded awesome and i punched it all the way home, about 100 miles and the exit where i got off the interstate on it fell off and the ram air snake was digging into the concrete and then i bought the kand n and it killed my computer and made the serv eng soon light come on and it costs 40.00 plus 85 dollars to reset my computer the volant had a 2nd edition that did fit properly
I def won't be buying another cold air kit anytime soon hehe!
bad bad news if u ask me and gices the stealer something to gripe about when u need a major repair!
why do they ev3en sell them?
12-15hp is not worth the stealer voiding your warranty
if it worked properly
i would def buy another one.
but the 2 i bought were a recipe for disaster just like the tornado air getting sucked into the intake and poss sticking wide open of the throttle
Given my current circumstances I think I will be putting the stock intake back on. Unfortunately when I was removing the original I broke the bottom half of the box. If anyone has one that they would be willing to sell me for cheap please let me know. Thanks
ude you got the older version---where did you buy it from?? the lastest version fits perfectly and the holes line up. and as far as the gains I cant understand how it coudl make it worse unless you didnt install it right, or the ecu has not reset. mine hauls with the volant installed it made a huge differnce even before I added my exhaust. I actually think you get more from the intake than the exhaust
did your box come with a peice of foam to stick to underneath the box,and a rubber surround to seal the fender opening
just call Joe @volant (search for his details) and hell send you the updated version for free and you will be more happy with your purchase
there are three very extensive volant threads that will help you out ,I even posted pics of the newer version
The worst mod I have installed yet in my truck is the Volant CAI!! Yes, Joe is great in trying to help but this mod does to my truck exactly as drrv1 describes - and yes, I have the "latest and greatest" - I'm just waiting for the 1 hour I need to put stock back in. Obnoxious Drone (sounds like a chainsaw) when stepping on the gas, not moving as it should when stepping on the gas, reduction in MPG due to having to step on the gas more than normal, just a plain 'ol pain the a** to clean every 3k miles (which is about every 6 weeks for me)...and this is Volant's 3rd version they have sent me - I even have a version that most of you don't - a modified cover to close the gap...which still is not closed. This mod blows. and $300.00 to boot. It's a rip-off if ever there was one. To me.
Are you guys running aftermarket exhaust? It is my understanding that you will acually loose low end torque running an aftermarket intake with stock exhaust. The guys I know that have them, also have aftermarket exhaust, and they love their intakes!

WHAT!!? You didn't reset the computer if it lost responsiveness.
Dude, like Smoke said, get the new version.
I don't know how the hell you got that old box. Who did you buy that junk from? You gotta talk to Joe asap. Tell him where you bought it so he can contact them.
I had the problem with the RAM-Air tube too though. I finally drilled two holes in the end of the tube that fits to the bumper and fastened it to the bottom lip. Make sure your screw-clamps are VERY VERY tight, use an 8mm socket if your screw driver can't get them all the way tight.
BTW, I LOST low end torque with the Exhaust and got it back with the intake, so what you said might be switched?
I'm very pleased w/ mine. Will dyno and post my results soon.
I've had it for 2 weeks now and I had the battery disconnected for a hour when I installed the Volant and I don't think it was long enough cause I didn't tell a difference at first and just like when I hooked up the Gibson it seemed to take a week or so before I noticed the Titan seemed to adjust fully to the mods and it feels alot more noticeable now after about a week or two...
Runs tip top better now.

oh yeah, forgot to say.. I love mine too!
I saw a Titan with the K&N and I was thinking... "I'm glad they don't try to call that thing a CAI." Hot air has to hit all over that thing. It sure looked nice though, I'll give them that.
Most accessories are just a gimmick, the first two post just prove that, In fact the added noise under the hood and resale, most people will see that type stuff and figure this guy dogs his truck and walk away from it. I would , but things like Slick 50, the Tornado and others thing make companies a lot of cash, and the truth being known after most owners install this stuff most of there benefits are in there head or their to embarressed to tell the true story. But that's my little two cents and I know people will continue to try increase there horsepower with bolts on's. Don't mean to upset anyone just from my past experience when you start modifing you create more problems.

TyTain, it is how you do you mods that will give you the best bang for your buck. We all know that an engine, in simplistic terms, is nothing more than a big air pump, thus the more air you can get in and the faster you can get it out, the more HP you make. Virtually every vehicle that I have purchased has gone through the "modding" phase and I have never had any problems. A larger exhaust and updated air induction system are always first on my list. However, I do not just add the exhaust and intake willy-nilly. I decide what I want to do to the vehicle and then I research the issues and make my decisions based on that reasearch. For me, the best combination I could see was the Gibson Extreme exhaust and the Volant CAI. Again, for me, this has turned out to be an excellent combination for improved HP and fuel mileage. No I don't have any dyno numbers for these combinations. All I can tell you is what I see and feel from the driver's seat and the gas pumps
Remember, production vehicles are built "neutral" to appeal to the masses and the various climates and fuel and emissions control. This motor is just begging to be "unleashed" as I believe it has been seriously de-tuned to appeal to the population since it's origins come from Nissan's racing motor. So, for some, "unleashing the Titan" is something they want to do - just depends on how much of the Titan you want to unleash
