Cheers
I've been sold on it for a couple years now. I've always had good results with it. I still change oil every 5000 miles or so.
I switched to Royal Purple everywhere I could put it at about 5 k. Running 5W-30 in engine and 75 -140 gear oil in front and rear diff's. I immediately noticed better fuel mileage when I switched . I'd like to think my truck runs pretty good with it.
I added RP before my last dyno test . It certainly didn't hurt my dyno results.
I also use Purple Ice Coolant additive. Coolant temps always look good. Even running hard.
Nice ride.
Happy Holidays

So Finnattic............9 HP of your gain was from the Poyal Purple......Got Ya! Was that SAE or corrected Royal Purple? Have a good holiday.........
9 hp can be just a change in conditions. Sorry but Royal Purple won't touch my engine after I see how it does after 3k of miles. Royal purple is only good for racing short term purposes, not normal driving.

I think RP can hang with anything out there for normal driving...
For starters it's allready been proven to add 9 hp before and after SAME CONDITIONS.
Just go to RP website and view all the INDEPENDENT testing that's already been done to show it's one of the "best preforming synthetics" out there and if ya do a little looking it's already been proven to go the distance in regular testing.
Not if the dyno is tested in SAE before and after. There are no variables involved...it's the same conditions<This standard makes it seem that the test was conducted at 77oF, 29.23 in. of Hg pressure, and a humidity of zero every time.
The condition is Royal Purple got added and gave it 9 HP.
You won't touch it after 3,000 miles? Does that that translate into you heard or read somewhere or have had Royal Purple tested lately and you didn't like the result?
It's good for 5k. I wouldn't run it much longer without changing it. I wouldn't do that with any oil.
Speaking of testing Royal Purple LATELY has anyone had a sample tested lately. I think I just found my next test that I'm going to do.
I think I'm gona send mine in for analysis after 5000 miles so we will have current proof if it's any good.
I'll post the results...

That's a good one KL99SEA, It was Corrected Royal SAE Purple
I'm gonna run an analysis...I want to compare RP to other oils synthetic and dino. See how RP stacks up or not...
I think someone just challenged Royal Purple and said it' only good for short term and not regular driving so I'm challenging back and I'm going to send mine in for analysis with 5000 miles on it and see if it's true or not.

I am not a big fan of RP, but I am sure it is fine oil. As for gaining 9hp, try changing out any old oil with new and see what the gains are...I'll stick with M1 and Redline.
cheers,
Scott

Good point, how old was the engine oil being replaced and what was it?

Believe what you want, but per all the blackstone lab tests I have seen, it does not hold up under normal conditions as well as Mobil 1 or Amsoil. It is not the leading synthetic. You can believe what you want from a WEBSITE THAT OWNS THAT SYNTHETIC, but non-biased test results from blackstone labs and other car clubs, Royal Purple is not for daily use. I have seen as much as 10 hp difference in engine temp alone. 9 hp just from oil, oh please.
Sure get yours tested, but compare it to a test from the same type of engine, same type of driving to mobil 1 or amsoil, or redline, it won't compare.

i to watched this episode and they pulled out some nasty dirty lookin non synthetic oil. the other thing is they didnt just change engine oil to gain 9 hp, they changed engine, transmission, and rear end. if you change all fluids over to a new fresh synthetic any car you do this to will get that much of a gain. to do it properly they sould have changed all fluids to a regular oil and dyno it, then change to RP and dyno again to see HP gain. i bet it will only be a couple of horse then

Ok, let me start by asking how old is this test you are referring to. I have read where RP has been reformulated to it's most recent formula.
I didn't say the leading syn but ONE of the leading syn. The info is all over the place.
Also I wouldn't call the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Dept NC State University not a unbiased report or website owned factor.
It's made for modern engines. Even if it doesn't do as well as the oils you cite it's damm sure up there. I'll have the samples compared to mobil 1 , amsoil, and redline.

Well its on going tests with all the clubs especially maxima.org. Also I have been in the racing industry for over 15 years. I have learned a lot about oils and many car related products. Royal Purple is not what they make it out to believe. TRUST ME. And the test below proves that.
And here is more info about Royal Purple, THE TRUTH.
-----
As you may know, RP is big in racing circles. The chemistry they use is something we choose not to use. One of our big selling points is extended drain intervals. Some additive chemicals can cause adverse conditions when used for long periods.
Royal Purple uses a different chemistry than most. They are one of only a handful of marketers using Moly in their oil. Moly is a solid, specifically banned by Cummins, due to excessive valve train wear.
Moly (Molybdenum Disulfide) is a processed mineral that is similar in appearance to graphite. Moly has good lubricating properties when used either by itself (in dry power form or as an additive to oil or other lubricants). Particles of the Moly can come out of suspension and agglomerate. This can actually clog oil filters or oil lines and the rest normally settles in the bottom of the oil pan. This seems to be more likely when using extended drain intervals. The only test we ran on RP involved their 20W50 Racing oil versus our AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic 20W50 Racing Oil (TRO). We ran two 4 ball wear tests with different parameters, a spectrographic baseline, FTIR scan and volatility tests. The Royal Purple showed a significantly high volatility rate with a 12.51% boil off rate. This compares to TRO with a 4.47% volatility rating. Wear scars were also smaller with the TRO. For example the TRO left a .41mm scar and the RP oil left a .66mm scar. There was also a surprising difference in the viscosity index. The RP has a VI of 129 versus 155 for the TRO. The higher the VI, the better the viscosity stays in place at high temperatures.
This infomation was profided by AMSOIL Tech Department. They had an independent lab test Royal Purple against AMSOIL. The results are posted above. They have found Moly in Royal Purple. As stated above, this can have negitive effects on your engine.
AMSOIL has been dyno tested against Royal Purple, in a issue of Fast Fours & Rotaries magazine. Click here to see the results.
