My Banks came in today from the Mossy group buy. I had been tracking it through UPS and noticed Greg had sent it to my house instead of work as I had requested. I came home for lunch today and there was the 6 foot long box with "Banks" on it, leaning against my front door, very visible from the street. No big deal - nobody swiped it thankfully.
And now it is on. I slapped it on after I got the kids to bed. Took about 1.5 hours. Fit and finish are excellent (much better than the Gibson I put on my last truck). I was only able to start it for about a minute to see what it sounds like at idle. Sounded good. I will test it out tomorrow. I think it will be very good "bang for the buck" that we spent on these ($400+shipping).
For kicks while doing the install, I started the truck with no exhaust system on it, just the open cats. WOW, that's loud. Sounded like NASCAR. I can only imagine running highway speeds with the straight pipes that some of you guys are running.
Edit: I forgot to mention that Greg threw in a Mossy Performance t-shirt and Nissan Performance wall calendar. Nice touch.
Very nice....i spoke to Greg yesterday, he already had shipped whatever he had in stock to some of you and he did a "will call" order on mine but, it will take 2 more weeks before i can pick mine up at Banks, apparently the factory are still making them as of now to compensate such big order from Mossy. I cant wait to get mine!!!

i have heard and driven in titans with both banks and gibson. IMHO and others, the banks drones as where the gibson is considerably less, plus the banks had a bit of a rasp to it. once again just MHO plus i am just jealous that you've got an aftermarket exhaust, still saving my duckets for the gibson... congrats on the banks though, sounds MUCH better than stock, although stock ain't bad...
Got mine today. Started looking at a beat up box, thought it looked like a tackling dummy. I laid out all the parts, Was trying to figure out what was missing when I notice the parts list and I couldn't find the chrome tail pipe.
Talk about a let down, I could hardly wait for the exhaust, now it's here and I cann't put it on.
you don't need no stinking tailpipe! at least i don't because i want mine to be unseen. i think it's from the opening they created to put in the shirt and calendar. mine was delivered with that end undone too but everything was there. sorry to hear but inform greg/banks. might also qualify for insurance/replacement if you report it.
yea reported to him, seemed like he'd take care of it. So you say you didn't use the tail pipe, what did you do?
Didn't mean to rain on the parade but you know how it goes.

i just left it out. the section of piping connected to the rear end of the muffler ends very close to the body line. it does not stick out too much so it's hardly seen when viewed from the side or the rear.
Well, after a day with it, all I can say is, "WOW, THAT'S LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS!!"
Sounds great at start-up. But the HEAVY DRONE starts at 1500 RPM, and is terrible to 2000. After about 3000, it just sounds like a freaking NASCAR truck. Full throttle is incredible. You can pull up next to somebody on your right and hammer it and scare the crap out of them. The echo I got back scared me! I did that to a couple Fords today.
It's a love/hate relationship. It has a great exhaust sound, but is WAYYYYY too loud in the cab. At highway crusing speed the drone is very bad. But it is fun to play with people with the noise, and just hammering it for effect.
Have any of you Banks guys been able to tone down the drone in the cab?

You need some hearing damage like mine....doesn't bother me a bit!
You should hear mine when I tow, sounds like a damn M-1....I love it!

How far out do you have the exhaust tip from the edge of the fender? that could have a lot to do with it. If it's too close in, the exhaust will reverb against part of the inside of the fender?
Mine has some drone at 1800 when starting up and holding at that RPM (50 mph+) no drone or excessive cabin noise while cruising the freeway at speed or at RPM -1800.
It gets loud when you floor it but like Rick says:
"I like the sound when I put the pedal down."

Two things -
1) so no drone at "-1800rpms"? I hope it doesn't drone at MINUS 1800 RPMs! Haha! I know you meant PLUS 1800 rpms which brings me to my next question...
2)So in park there is a drone at 1800 but not when you are going down the highway? Just curious.

No drone at less than 1800, 1800 seems to be the drone mark for me.
After 1800 no drone, no drone at idle, no drone at highway speeds.
No drone in park,
I don't know, perhaps,
no drone in the dark?
If eyes could hear
and ears could see,
I wonder what color
that sound would be? (Apologies to Dr. Seuss).
Accelerating up to 1800 drone appears, accelerating past 1800 drone disappears, gassing it gives a throaty roar.
It is louder than stock. Someone said it sounds like an "ole 454", lots have told me they like it. No one has told me they don't.
How else can I explain it?

Mine sounds like it's worse than yours. My exhaust tip is well beyond the sheetmetal. The drone seems to come up through the floor and maybe some up the gap between the cab and bed. I'm going to experiment tomorrow. When me and another guy go to a meeting tomorrow, I'm going to make him sit in the back and crawl around and see where the noise is entering the cab - bottom or back, or both. I like the full throttle sound. Maybe there is some way to reduce the drone. Sound baffling under the cab maybe. I'm going to experiment with it. Maybe get a local sound control rep to let me "test" some of his product.
I doubt the drone is as bad in the extended cabs as it is in the crew cabs. Less cab over the muffler, maybe even none over it.
