What do you think about jba headers w/out cats???

What's yall opinion on JBA headers w/out cats or stock resonators. I was never a huge fan of the JBA headers because it seems like you would still have alot of restiction @ the cats and the stock resonators on top of that the trouble oh welding to stock cats sounded like a pain. So...what if i ran some O2 simulators and nulled out my cats? How do you think the JBA's would perform then? The JBA's are 2.5'' in diameter @ the collector i'll just put a reducer and some dynomax bullet mufflers in place of my resonators before i connect to my banks exaust to quiet her down a tad.....How many horse do you think she would gain off of that?

Any responses would be greatly appreciated...

If you are going to go to all that trouble, I'd just wait for some full length headers instead of these JBA's which IMHO are just a compromise and not much of an improvement over the stock manifold.

The Nismos will be out soon and delete the cats for you and come with the bungs that will accomodate the O2 sensors, which are widebands by the way so I don't know that the 0-1V O2 simulators would even work.

Agreed. The JBAs are junk. Will also be waiting for Nismo's.
O2 simulators are for the REAR or secondary sensors. You don't put those up front, that would make your truck run really funny. The feedback given by the widebands up front is required for the truck's computer to run the engine properly.
O2 sims will help you omit the cats by telling the truck that everything is "OK" when they are installed after the cats.

I know it sucks to wait for products to be developed/manufactured, but it would suck worse to see a nice pair of headers come out and to be kicking yourself for not waiting a couple 'a more months.

pciley,

Sounds like we will all have to integrate O2 simulators on our REAR or secondary sensors when these nismo headers come out. Don't you have have them already pciley? From the pictures the nismo's look like they would mountright to the stock resonators. I hope this will be true....cause that would mean my straight pipes should bolt right on. I hope so cause the parts i've been ordering for my straight pipes have not been real cheap (Banks gaskets and flanges, bullet mufflers, 3'' to 2.5'' slow rate reducers, mandel bent elbows, upcomming labor.....ect)

Anyways i am real happy for this web site...you guys keep me straight when i get impatient

The simulators are cheap. I found them at my parts dept. but they are all over the internet for much cheaper. My dealership has a very liberal return policy so I often pay more to buy things there knowing I can return them even if they've been opened or installed (minus any damage, of course).
You can even look at:
http://www.o2simulator.com/

btw, the Nismo headers had better come flanged with two pieces or so per header. If not, it might be a bear to install with those long pipes on them.
The installation of the headers is going to be hard enough as it is without a cumbersome long tube that doesn't disassemble from the header. Have you guys seen how cramped the hand space is by the OEM exhaust manifolds? Would be a Saturday project for sure. Probably need an entire case of beer to finish this one

That should sound great but becarefull i've seen some funky ses lights pop on with other vehicles with the 02 placement being changed...oh and the shielding on the wiring for the conectors is ok however you can get some high temp wrap that works on plug wires from summit....

Hey Head,

Do you know when the NISMO's are gonna be here? Or are you just being optimistic when you say they will be here soon?

The Nismo rep at the Mossy show said "First quarter '05".. that could put us as late as end of March... worth the wait IMO. We'll see. I have asked Greg V at Mossy to get a set for me when they are available.

JBA's look great, can get them ceramic coated. Besides cosmetics, not really worth getting.

I am a new Titan owner just got it on monday it is an 05 4x4 se king cab, big tow and off road bed liner and fog lights all the good bells and whistles. My first thought was WOW! this ia an absolutely incredible truck and it is. i have hard core dodge and chevy friends and they have a huge hard on for titans now.

My Question is this the first things i am wanting to do is, chip, intake and exhaust. what is good and i want true duel exhaust. none of this 2 into 1 pipe stuff then 2 tips thats crap.

any comments would be great!
Thanks

I agree that the JBA's are a waste of $$. Way too short to do you any good at low/mid rpm ranges. Also, look at the difference in lengths between the shortest and longest tubes on those JBA's. Ideally, you want equal-length tubes to the collector.

Are the Nismo's equal-length headers and what tube diameter are they?...........anyone know, I haven't seen them yet. It'd be nice to know what power range they're tuned for.

Also, those secondary O2 sensors are only there to verify to the ecm that the front cats are indeed working by comparing the O2 content between the two, which is why you can get away with fooling the ecm w/ a simulator.
