Dual pipes; to the sides, straight back or does it matter?

Is it best to have dual pipes ran straight back or to the sides or is it simply a matter of preference?

Preference...

Will you be towing with the truck? IF so, you may get some noise bounceback from the front of the trailer with straight pipes..

as soon as I get the chance i'm gonna get the duals to the side (both on the right side). the only reason is because "i" don't like the look of the duals with one on each side.

If your going to but a boat in the water, you probably wouldn't want duals out the back either. But it's mostly preference.

i would really like to put duals coming out in front of the rt rear tire (ala lightning) but w/ a cc there is not enough space. i still think ill put two on one side when it comes time for an aftermarket exhaust.

I may be wrong about this, but didn't ford change the position of its exhaust when from in front of teh tires to behind them because people complained that the exhaust was destroying their middle hub cap? I guess that wouldn't matter if you had aluminum rims.

Rear exit exhausts can leave soot residue on whatever you're towing as well as the possibility of carbon monoxide buildup if you have a shell or camper on the back. If you don't tow or have a shell, then there might be a sound difference between exiting the back versus the side. If you're putting in a custom exhaust system then be sure the rubber brake lines are not subject to the excess heat the new exhaust may generate.

The L definately has the coolest exhaust as far as trucks go! Definately out the side.

Don't forget about your side lock box if you have one. Side exits won't work with it.

This is how I have mine, I love it. I usually don't tow anything though. I like the look of the 4" outlets.

You can have duals coming out right behind the tires. The driver side is a little tuff due to the lock box. Its also a tight fit over the axle and spare. It looks good with the stainless tips.
