Flowmaster Installed - video & sound clips

Installed the Flowmaster dual exhaust kit for the Titan. Very happy with the performance and sound. It bolts on after the resonators and uses a Y-pipe, single in 3", 70 series muffler, dual out 2.5", and SS polished rolled embossed tips.

Click here to download a zip file of three sound clips (.mp3 format 817kb)

The rev sound clips of the stock exhaust and Flowmaster exhaust were done using same recorder, same setting, and at approximately the same RPMs. These two clips were done to compare the stock versus Flowmaster exhaust sounds. The Flowmaster interior acceleration sound clip is from a stop heading up a steep hill.

Click here to download a zip file of two video files (.wmv format 1165kb)
The video files are of a take off and drive by in the Titan demonstrating the aggressive deep toned sound of the dual exhaust Flowmaster.

I'll post more pics soon.
Enjoy!

Love it, it's not too much louder than the stock but it is, and such a nice sound. I know whats next on my list. Thanks for the up date.

Wow

Thank you for taking the time to do that. What a difference, I have always been a fan of flowmaster.

Very nice. How much was the exhaust kit? I wonder if you could get a sound clip from the interior, cruising at about 65mph?!

I purchased it from summitracing.com for $417.34 with free shipping (they actually had it shipped directly from Flowmaster to me). I'll see what I can do about that sound clip, but I expect it will not have much sound in it. After resetting the ECM and driving a total of about 100 miles, I have noticed that at cruising the interior noise level can be as quiet or a little louder than the stock exhaust. When cruising, I haven't had to raise my voice when talking to my wife or adjust the stereo sound upward. All in all, if you are on the gas, it will be louder than stock, and the higher the RPMs the louder than stock it will get. Hope this helps.

Did you do the install yourself? How long did it take? Sounds mighty fine to me...I think I will be ordering a kit here sometime.

Yes. Jacked up the rear to give me a little more room to do it.

Removing the stock exhaust was very easy and took less than 30 minutes of labor. Removal involved (1) unbolting the flange connection behind the muffler and then sliding the entire tail section out; (2) Unbolting the flanges at the resonators; (3) Removing the hanger closest to the y-pipe; (4) Sliding out the remaining exhaust unit in one piece.

Installing the Flowmaster kit took about 4 hours by myself (including set-up/clean-up). If I had it up on a lift, some power tools, and a helper it would have taken far less time. It utilizes the stock exhaust hangers and includes parts to install one additional hanger. Currently, I only have the slip fittings holding it together but will also be getting the connections welded. A problem I had with the instructions was installing the additional hanger for the driver's side rear exhaust pipe. The instructions were not very detailed as to which direction the hanger was supposed to face after attaching it to an existing hole in the frame. Doing it their way did not seem possible as the spare tire was in the way, so I mounted the hangar on the other side of the frame and that worked (spent some time figuring this out as I did not want to screw it up).

Doing it their way did not seem possible as the spare tire was in the way, so I reversed the direction of the hanger to the outside of the frame and that worked (spent some time figuring this out as I did not want to screw it up).
Great, thanks!!

Thanks, Caltitan for the pics/vids. Ordered mine from summit about an hour ago....lol! I swore I wasn't going to put more than one aftermarket exhaust on my truck.....but that's what I get for not waiting! I knew I didn't want the Banks, and loved the sound of the Flows, but until now they didn't have cat-back system.

BTW.....summit has this kit on back order until 2/21/05. Cost was same as Caltitan paid, $417 shipped......awesome price, considering it's over $600 from Flowmaster.

Caltitan.....could you snap a pic of the driver-side hanger mount discrepancy you referred to?? It will sure save others time and brain damage who are installing the kit.

Thanks,
Steve

The 17406 single in, dual out system is the only Flowmaster kit I've seen for the Titan. But not positive, though. If they had one, that's probably the one I'd go with too......I kinda like the sleeper look of a single out.

I would say, I will send you back my extra pipe and the muffler if you sent me single in single out 70 series muffler. Think they would go for it?

As promised, here are additional pics, including y-pipe and driver's side rear exhaust hanger as I installed it.
