Banks exhaust installed, hate the look...

I installed my Banks exhaust from the group buy today. (Thanks to all who helped make this happen).

Installation was quick and the kit fits very well. The sound is a bit loud, but I am not complaining.

What I think is absurd is the big fat megaphone tip. Looks great from the side of the truck, but it looks dumb from behind. No offense to y'all who like it. I don't like it on my truck..... Maybe I'll sell it to some kid to put on his Honda CRX.

I am off to the muffler shop next week to get the flare cut off and replace the damn thing with a piece of pipe that is the same diameter as the exhaust tubing. I will have it bent slightly downward and cut at an angle so the sound is deflected by the ground. (Old road racers trick to pass sound at tracks that have low limits).

I'll post a report on how it affects the sound level.

Cheers,
Eric

If its too loud have them add a resonator it will quiet it down a bit. Had to do that on mine. Good luck. Might also be able to split it off after the muffler and give it a dual look.

So I ordered a Banks 3" chrome "turn down" tip. Cut the flare off the end of the tail pipe and clamped it on.

What an improvement. The nasty drone at 1700 - 2000 is now tolerable and the system looks like it belongs on a truck.

I feel all better now.

freidawg , got any pics? My Gibson 3"-3.5" slash tip arrived today. I am gonna get a few inches of SS pipe welded on when I cut off the flare to keep the length the same.

Will get pics when done!

THE TIP is the best looking part of the exhaust, considering you don't see the nice polished muffler. You gotta be nuts.. to each his own I guess.

Is it the size or the shiny-ness? Sounds like it might just be a bit too large.

Won't a smaller tip affect the nice rumble though? Others who posted after swapping tips complained about the change in the exhaust note.
It seems your "megaphone" analogy is right-on.

Why not, it is just a $35 tip? Banks is hands down the best in quality (T304 SS) and fitment (plus is mandrel bent). It is just the tip that is a little excessive to me and a select few.

Many have been less than satisfied with their "custon from the start" and have spent way more than $35 tweaking their "custom" system.

I think the Banks is going to suit a lot of performance minded...

a lot of folks that love the Banks seem to have motorcycle racing (not all but many) in their resume. I am like PCRiley.....can you get any better....looks, sound, performance, quality, etc.... for the $.

I didn't want some Bubba welding on my truck. The Banks works and is better quality than most local shops will use. It is all that!!!

My kids grin every time they ride with me... not for the sound...but for the way Dad acts like a 18 yr old and goes from 0-60...or 60-90 as fast as the truck will go. And the Banks gets it there faster....at least on my truck. Sounds like I want it to. No rasp, no popping, no freakin' light on the dash coming on. B-U-T-FUL

I'll post a pic this weekend.

How does it feel to buy a $400 exhaust and then mod it? It sucks, but I went impulsive on the group buy and didnt research the product before I committed.

I am much happier now, however. I hated the loud drone. Right where the motor runs most of the time. very irritating!

Could be my imagination, but the truck feels slightly more powerful seems to rev a bit easier than with the stock system.

The looks of the big tip? gimme a break. From the back of the truck it looked like a cheesey JC Whitney bolt on kludge. It does look bad *** from the side, however.

By the way I have an extra Banks 4" in 5" out exhaust tip for sale cheap.

Took mine off. Much better sound and no stupid tip. Seem that with the tip off, there's no more popping, just a nice roar.

I'm starting to feel like I was the only one who ordered something called ....

The Banks MONSTER Exhaust ....

And didn't expect it to be both "small" and "quiet" ....

I have never ever had "popping" with the Banks. It's been on since March and you are the first one that I've noticed mention "popping" with the Banks. No offense but I've got to ask: do you have it installed correctly? One or two have installed the muffler with the inlet/outlet ends switched.
