Im 17 yrs old and I just got my titan, ive already installed some mods, and im tackling the exhaust next. I talked to a performance shop that said they can fabricate a full custom exhaust for me from the headers back. i want true duals but other then that i dont reallly know. They asked for what size tubing, if i wanted high flow cats, muffler type, ect.... So im basically clueless. So im jsut asking for some help on building the ideal exhaust system, and get some peoples differnt opinions. Im holding off on the JBA headers because of what i have heard about short tube. Does any one know when the long tube from NISMO or anyone will be availible? Thanks for all the help.
Why is it that every time we get a youngster with a new Titan, they feel the need to publicise their age? Fairly extraneous information if you ask me. "hello, I'm a white guy with brown hair and blue eyes and I just got a Titan" Not trying to be rude, just trying to give you and others a heads up.
Okay, now that I have that out of the way, let's see if we can help. Oh, I almost forgot, welcome to TitanTalk. Back to the subject, well there is a great variety of aftermarket exhaust setups, so I'm sure you'll hear just about every idea pitched.
I highly recommend you become intimately familiar with the Search feature here. It will be of more use to you than simply asking questions that have already been answered. One thing I'd mention is that I don't think high flow cats are worth the money, or at least that's what most exhaust techs I've spoken with have had to say (compared to late model OEM cats that is.) Other than that, check out the different threads and listen to some sound clips. Find a set up that suits your needs/desires, and more importantly, your wallet.
i was just telling u that i was 17 to let u know im young and dont really know whats best for my truck yet, so i needed help, so sorry about the miss understanding, i guess i stated it wrong, but thanks for the help on the exhaust.
Is it possible 2 have to completly seperate pipes, from the headers, using no x-pipe, and using 2 mufflers (1-in/1-out) on both pipes? Its hard to explain what im trying to say but i want to do a complete custom job, so i was looknig for some help here. Thanks
My friend keeps wanting me to put some high flow mufflers on mine, however, I think it does pretty good as is. What reasons do you have for going completely custom? Performance? Sound?
cya,
paul

Just want to be unique. Dont want to be like every one else. And with all the controversy on the exhausts that are out there, just thought i would customize my own.
Have you prioritized what it is you want out of a custom exhaust? Sound, low end gain, high end gain, mpg increase, looks, etc. Also consider what other mods you plan on doing. Like Sammy says, do a search and see what people have been doing and how satisfied they are with what they did. Some have been unhappy with their custom exhaust set-ups, others have been very happy. Also go to the performance mods forum and browse through that. Definitely read the rear wheel dyno threads.

Of course, and it has been done by several members here. Do a search and you'll probably find what I'm talking about. However, 1. we don't have headers 2. there are two seperate pieces of pipe between the manifold's flange and the the two pipes running into the Y. These pipes have the stock resonators on them (or extra cats for the 4x4) as well as the O2 sensors. All of the exhaust setups I've looked at here start from the rear flange of these pipes, not the manifolds (which have the cats connected to them.) 3. The performance gains for going true dual (two mufflers) over single muffler hardly make it worth it, especially considering the costs. 4. If you are such a stickler for fractions of a HP, then you'd also want some sort of crossover, even more so with a dual set up. My suggestion, save your money and go with a single in/dual out or a dual in/dual out w/crossover (X or H.) If you insist on getting dual mufflers, then it'd be wise to include a crossover (X being the more beneficial.)
I just had duals put on my truck on 2-8, I ran 2 seperate pipes after the cats with no crossover pipe. THE THING WAS LOUD!! I meen really loud. I had a 2003 ford that I piped strait with no mufflers and sounded preety good so I figured I'd do the same on the mighty titan. I'd have to say it was as loud as a chevy big block strait piped, deffinitely a cop magnet. In the end I put in some 18" glass packs and it sounds mean like a built motor. Even the guy at the exhaust shop could'nt believe how loud it was. Now I'm getting everyone asking me if I have a different motor in the titan or what they can't believe a Nissan sounds the way it does.

You NEED a crossover on that setup. It will gain you some low-end torque and quiet it down a little. It will still sound nice, just a different tone.

Hey Im 17 also and have a Crew Cab 4x4 off road. I have the magnaflow that I got from a custom shop and everyone compliments me on having the best exhaust. I go to a school of 3000 kids and about a 1/3 of them have exhaust and by far I have the best and loudest sounding exhaust. If you want a good muffler get the Magna Flow wide open series. This has no chambers inside and there is no restriction. I garuntteee you will like this muffler and my custom shop only charged me $295 for the whole job. That is with the full package. Muffler, Pipes, and tips. Let me know what you do.
