I want to switch my exhaust..

Right now I have a Flowmaster Delta 40 series muffler on my titan and I want to try something different. It is loud, but not as deep and throaty as I would like it and it has a tendency to make a cackle when i get on it. There is also quite a bit of drone in the cab at around 2000 rpm. Less or more rpm makes it go away, but 2000 seems to be my cruising rpm and I do a lot of highway driving. My question is: What kind of exhaust system would give me a nice loud, deep tone without that drone at 2000 rpm. Thanks guys, I appreciate it!!!

none. if you have a louder than stock exhaust you will have drone as the motor noise at that point vibrates the tailpipe. the only fix for the drone is a side branch resonator that T's off the tailpipe about half way down its length and runs across the back of the truck behind the spare tire and ends in a closed end. that will echo back noise into the exhaust and cancel out the motor vibration in the tailpipe. juma

I have the Banks exhaust. It gives a definite increase in power -- and sound. 1800 to 2000 RPM, OUCH! I've used Dynamat and some light undercoating with some success but not enough. It sounds like a hot rod (and goes like one too). There are other posts on this.

Im on round two and a half with mine. First was the JBA full exhaust, which to my disliking had no definitive v8 rumble but rather a humming tone. It also rasped like hell under load. Round two was a dual in single out magnaflow placed damn near at the axel with the jba y removed. Although the tone improved and the drone reduced, the rasp increased tenfold. Next was the removal of the JBA resonators and re-install of the stock reso's. This sounds good, but in my opinion doesnt pull nearly as hard as before. Some time soon id like to replace the stock resos with some Moroso Spiral Flows like The Head is running.

My advice before you burn more money is to either go with a larger Flowmaster, or try a Borla XR-1 muffler. Both of which should kill any rasp and deepen the tone.

I put my exhaust on and it sound like I owned a Top Fuel Dragster. I loved the look but hated waking up the neighbors. So my muffler shop added some resonators. I get the deep rumble on take off but it goes away at driving speed unless I hop on it. Which is exactly what I wanted. My muffler shop puts duals on all day long (Flowmaster, Magnaflow, Borla etc) on Tahoes, F150's etc. He says that the Titans and Aramadas have one of the louder engines. Even though an exhaust might sound good on on vehicle it might be too loud on the Titan. This is why there are so many complaints on the existing threads about the noise of all the aftermarket mufflers being loud and droneing in the cab. The only way that I know of to lower the level is to add resonators or put the stock one back on. If you remember the stock one made some noise when you jumped on the throttle. Here are some pics of the Resonators and where they were put. I have 2.

I had the flow 40 also and hated it for the drone. I went with a Gibson dual sport and love it. It's not as loud, but no drone and it has a very low V8 rumble and it sounds mean when you get on it. No rasp or pop at all.

a little more

Good morning titan lovers. Im going with 35.12.50 on 17x8 and I have little tow. If I go with a k&n filter, chip(which one), and an exhaust do you think I will get some power back. Im still new here. I put a gibson single on my 32v navigator and liked the sound (low and no drone). Think I will like it on a titan? Thanks for the info.

We have no chip out yet. The one on Ebay is a rip off.

Hey JaxTitan which brand of resonator did you use I am goin back to a smaller magnaflow muffler and I think I try that as I get the same 2000 rpm drone--which I hate--I want the raspier tone, but that little bump at 200 is annoying

also do you have a ypipe before the muffler????

thx

Muffler shop had different ones in stock. Just go to your local muffler shop that does performance exhaust and ask. See what they say.

Cool Dual Exhaust...

I have a set of Gibson Performance combo (two mufflers welded together) new style just released from Gibson. And my Titan runs like a champ. At 70 MPH my RPM's is @ 1600. My gas milage has increased by 22 miles. Just make sure you get true dual from the 'Y' all the way back.

And anything short of a tire change, rear end gear change or trip into the tranny will not change your top gear rpm's with a locked converter. Sorry.

Sounds like a cool muffler.

The way I read that is to go true dual from where the y is on back. In other words, start the true dual conversion from where the y was.

I went with a Flo-Pro dual in/dual out long body. I left the factory resonators in place. It has a very good V8 sound, yet it is not offensively loud. The only "noise" I hear now is engine sound (vrooom-vroooom) and the sound from the stainless steel tips at the back end of the truck. When cruising on the highway, it is quieter in the cab now than it was with the stocker. I don't get any drone at all. It still has great pull and get up and go too.

some mufflers have more drone than others, sammy's said his flowmaster 70 had very little drone. i have an imco dual/in/out and the drone at hwy speed will spilt your head, i am getting ready to change it. another guy on here put a ractive true dual setup and he said his absolutely had no drone at any speed. i would go swap mufflers before dealing with sound insulaters or resonaters, try a 70 series,
