i would urge against it. after 2 weeks of the horrible drone at all speeds i replaced it with flowmaster 70 series.

i have an imco muffler and love it! i've used them before on my 88 Ford 5.0 with great success. the drone you speak of (1500-1700rpm) has more to do with the pipe length and diameter, right? see my link below in my sig for more info...

after i switched to the flowmaster the drone was gone... the flowmaster 70 isnt as aggressive as the imco, the 50 series which is more like the imco has the drone also so im guessing it has to do with a combination of muffler design and pipes. i also had the 7554 and the sound is great but my head couldnt take the hwy speed drone.

yea if you want to do a single in/out, i went the dual in/out and had to change everything. i did the duals out the back for looks. i think the single in/out actually gives you better gains and doesnt lower low end torque so little youll never be able to tell either way.

alot of people says its best if you change the stock y pipe because its pretty small, but considering you cant tell any seat of the pants horspower gains from an exhaust, then i wouldnt worry about it.

the muffler will run you around $100 off ebay, the shop will try to charge you $150 for the same muffler. should be around $50 for labor and say $20 for the tip. for about $150-$170 you could put a 70 series on your stick piping, i know that location has alot to do with pricing, what i gave you is a rough estimate of what i paid here in ky. if you know the muffler guys pretty well and price shop you should get that grumble under $200 easy.

i think the part # for the one you need is a 52570
