Question Long tube headers, cats and all thats

Quick question for you street legal performance gurus out there... I know that there are no long tube headers available for the Titan right now, but hopefully by the time I can afford them, my warranty will have run out and someone will have made them.

JBA has shorties available, so if they went through the effort to make short tubes, why didn't they make long tubers too? Is there a problem with moving the cats further downstream from the cylinders?

Another thought is that some of you have the capability to make stuff like this, has any one started experimenting? I am killing time at the end of the work day trying to think of things I wish I could do with my exhaust with my own hands. Seems like if someone had the tools and the know-how, you could take some JBA shorties, cut them and fab up some long tubes. That way you have the flanges and collectors already done and you just have to lengthen the pipes in the middle.

Maybe I'm just brain dead , but seems feasible...

usually a long tube header doesnt move the cat but replaces them at least in all the ones I have seen that may be why JBA only made shorties because they didnt wanna worry about MIL eliminators or just didnt wanna deal with the emission questions. but from all the long tubes I have seen they just get rid of the cats not move them

There's a lot that goes into the design of a quality header. JBA was the first (I think) because they didn't do their homework. You have to consider not only the length, but also the diameter. This is what determines the powerband and where it occurs....low,mid, high rpm range. Also, even if you extend the length of the JBA's, they still would be unequal length. Did you notice JT's pics of the JBA's......there is a huge diff between the length of the shortest to the longest tube. You'll always gain more power if the lengths are equal due to better scavenging of the comb chambers. So, I'm not saying you wouldn't benefit from modding the JBA's by extending them, but the question would be how long should they be to give the power in the preferred range? I've seen formulas and software for calculating this stuff, but it's not something I'd want to mess with. Like you, I'll hold out for the Nismos, or ?? Hek, I may just leave the stockers on.....they look pretty good to me, after seeing JT's pics. Talk to JT.....since he's yanking the JBA's this weekend, bet he'd make someone a sweet deal.....lol! Poor guy.....
