Quickest Baseline Titan is...????

Just an opinion, but based on a discussion on the General Forum I believe for best ultimate performance it's better to start with the fastest box stock Titan.

I'm guessing the 4X2 KC with Big Tow would give the best 1/4 mile times out of the box. The basis for this opinion is that the 2X4 KC is the lightest and the Big Tow provides somewhere around a 4:10 rear axle ratio. As to which trim level is faster... ??? maybe the LE with the big wheels? Or the base Titan without the weight of some of the options and the spray in bedliner. Hard for me to get my arms around the trim level question.

Any real life numbers out there? Other opinions?

BTW, mine is a 4X2 KC LE. :=)

First of all, the rear axle is 3.36, NOT 4.10 with the big tow!!! The LIGHTEST would be a XE-KC with the min. amount of opts. Dont really think you will get any REAL performance #s here!!!!! You will get a PILE of B.S. #s Just remember: There all fastest, TILL YOU GET UM TO THE TRACK!!!!!!! And if ALL the MODS (air intake and exhaust) did what they claimed THEY WOULD ALL RUN IN THE 13's NUFF SAID!!!!!!!!

With respect to the comment about BS, yes, there is some, but not much. The stickies listed at the beginning of this part of the forum contain a lot of very fact specific info and quite a few time sheets and dyno runs. Check here:

http://www.titantalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18365

There is a lot of data on unmodded trucks and a good bit of very objective info to check out. And . . . while the rear diff with the Big Tow package, is, indeed, 3.36 to 1, the gearing in the tranny produces a very low first gear and closely spaced gearing, especially in the first three gears, which produces an effective gearing equivalent to 4.10 to 1.

Most likely a KC XE with only the big tow would be fastest, all other things being equal.

Actually, XE never had a big tow. You could get the gearing in the XE with the offroad package.

OK, so you could get the gearing on the XE with the off road package. Can you get the off road without 4X4? Can you get the big wheels with the off road package?

With the KC 4X2 with big tow you get an effective 4.10 rear axle and with the LE you get the big wheels.

Will the big wheels make any difference + or - on 1/4 mile times?

Only the 2004 models have the 4x2 Offroad package. I think they discontinued it with the 2005's.

the biger wheels would have a negative affect at the track as it is more unsprung weight

I read in some Nissan publication, that the effective ratio for the 3.36 rear end was equal to a 4.10 in a standard transmission, and the 2.94 was equal to a 3.73.
Has to do with the lower 1st gear in our transmission.

the 3.36 is about equal to a 4.10 that comes in a 4speed

Can you explain why the big tow package would be faster. I though the big tow would be slower but be able to pull more. I'm not much of a mechanic. Thanks

The goal is to get the 3.36 gear. Whether or not you get it with the big tow or off road I don't think it'll make a difference. The off-road wheels are lighter than the steel XE wheels, however.
