Question for Volant owners with scoop

I was looking at pics of the duct for the Volant box ram air tube and was wondering if anyone had pics of how it is laid out when installed. Specifically I'm looking to see where it is routed in the engine bay and also where it goes in relation to the frame rail there on the driver's side. Does it go to the engine side of the frame rail?

The reason I ask is that the electric fans take up less room in the engine bay and I see no reason why I couldn't run a 3" dryer hose the entire way to the front. I could probably run a 3" PVC setup too...

Thanks in advance.

I have two photos posted in My Gallery on this site's Photo Gallery (under Quick Links). One shows the route along the frame from the engine bay, the other shows the mount at the tow hook opening in the front bumper.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

PVC is not suggested to use in an engine bay since the high temps when PVC reaches its temp point it starts releasing chlorine gas which can seriously gum up your engine

I'm going to try an aluminum dryer hose. It is expandable but the corrugations of the hose aren't as rough as the plastic type. I also got a vent thing (you'll see a pic soon, I just don't know what to call it) to put on the end of it to act as a kind of scoop. It'll be ugly but I only plan to run it at the track.

Good warning on the PVC. It was way too heavy anyway. Mounting it would have been a chore with the weight.

ya the dryer hose will be a safer bet plus easier to pull out and in at the track not to mention cheap to replace if torn

And the coil inside it will cause the air to swirl and give you extra power just like the tornado and TB spacer!

Seriously, What about 3" solid metal dryer duct? Not the flexible kind, but the solid pipe like what runs the dryer duct out of the house? It would be smoother inside than the flexible stuff, no toxic gas when it melts like PVC, and I don't think it is as heavy as PVC. You can also get the matching elbow joints you need for your install. Won't be as smooth as a custom molded plastic, but better than the flexible duct.

Also, I was looking at 37L1's pics in his gallery. Looks like if you can get a 3" pipe up there, you will be doing way better than the Volant soda straw. Don't forget the pics!

Well the metal ducts don't bend or turn that easy. I spent $10 on my ram air setup - hose, clamp, and scoop thing.
