the muffler shop should know what size piping. did you already buy all the stuff, because must muffler shops would carry everthing you need to do a true dual exhaust. They might not have the x pipe but some shops do. I went with 2.25" pipe I think that is the stock exhaust size too. if you already have the mufflers it tell you what size piping it needs or at least on the box.

I had 2 true duals in my Titan. First dual used 2.25 inch crush bent pipes and sounded great but with drone above between 1500 and 2000 RPMs. I upgraded to 2.5 inch mandrel bent pipes for more mellow and deeper tone and I couldn't be happier. I also gained more low end torque (butt dyno) shown by the speed of the RPM needle to whip up to 3.5 thousand.
Just out of curiousity, does't true dual exhaust mean having 2 seperate catalytic converters and running 2 seperate pipes all the way back?

"True Duals" means having 2 separate tubing (coming from the 2 engine banks, in the Titan's case, from the Left & Right catalytic converters) going into 2 separate mufflers, and again, separate tubing from each muffler all the way to the exit point. The X-pipe (before the mufflers) balances the exhaust pressure between the 2 separate systems because of the difference in tubing lenghts also prevents low end torque loss.
Is there any difference between a Y pipe and an X pipe from a performance stand point? If you are not going true dual, is there any benefit of one over the other?

If your Y pipe goes into a bigger pipe I think its ok. Say like you have two 2.25 inch pipes going into a single 3.5 inch pipe would prob work well. Nissan just smashed the two 2.25 pipes down to make them fit inside a 3 inch pipe. That means at that particular junction the pipes have been smashed down from 2.25 to 1.5 inch diameter. Thats not so hot. Y pipe will save you the cost of an extra muffler and piping. An X pipe will force you to purchase two seperate mufflers unless you do one of those dual in / dual out jobs. Bottom line is, if the Y pipe is built right, it will perform close to an X pipe.

Well said sapper!! This is Nissan OEM Y-pipe that sapper1971 is talking about.

I have never seen the flowmaster Y-pipe in person but based on the photo you enclosed, it seems to be very well made without any constricting areas compared to the restrictive Nissan Y-pipe.
However, if you are just going with a single muffler, avoiding the Y-pipe completely by using a "2-in/2-out" muffler IMHO is the way to go.
Where can some one get an "X" pipe? Do local exh. shops have them and do they conform to the emissions if your state has them? Tn does not I am just wondering.

Check out on eBay and type "magnaflow x-pipe" on search. There are 2.25-2.5 & 3 inch ones going up for bid. Not cheap and if you do a web search, you may be able to find cheaper ones.
