First off, his e-mail is not working and won't be up again until 03/28. He apologizes for any returned mail.
Ok, here's the scoop. They are working on developing an exhaust system. They are debating a couple of items. I do not know how to create a poll, but this is what he wants to know:
1. 2.5" or 3"
2. "Y" pipe or true dual
Now my gut instinct is 3" and true dual, but remember it can actually loose power until its being fully used which could mean having to run our engines like a Honda V-tec.
Oh, also it will be stainless steel all the way.
Due date is appox: August 2005.

Joe mentioned this to me a couple weeks ago when talking to him about some other stuff. At that time, they were not considering replacing the Y-pipe until I told just how restrictive it is. I'm sending him a cross-sectional cutaway pic so he can see it for himself. If they don't offer it with a new y-pipe, I don't think they'll be a real competitor in the exhaust aftermarket.

woudl be Niiiiiice!!!
Diddo on the 2.5" true dual (just so happens to be what I run). Use 3" and you will loose power. You have to be running close to 400hp to justify 3".

I don't mean to sound like a jerk but anyone developing a new product that is performance oriented should not be asking the consumers what they want. They should take the time to do the R&D to determine which configuration actually produces better results. If at that point various combinations give similar results they should ask what would be the preferred configuration.
Anyone can produce another catback system but how about someone actually producing a system that IS better than the competition.

Good point...that's kind of what he's doing though.
Whether we like it or not a 3.5" exhaust, straight back is not going to be what they design if it doesn't produce results.
This is a curiosity poll. Trust me Joe is a great guy, but he's not going to put out a "pretty" item with no results.
Function first, then form.
This poll was designed to pull what people like in the event that form and function equal results.

will be interesting to see..But, keep in mind it will not actually be a VOLANT exhaust, but rather their name will be on it..It will be a system made and sourced from another company
I would like to see a system that takes out the resonators, a cat back.
I agree, but then they'd have to make a separate system for the 4WD models which have the secondary cats instead of the reso. I doubt they'd produce a system that would allow for replacement of the cats due to CARB approval and warranty issues. Once my warr is up, I'll probably remove my rearward cats.

Why do the 4x4 models have an extra set of Cats? Are the first undersized for drive-line clearance or something?
That seems to be the $64,000 question. I don't recall anyone explaining the reason, for sure.....but maybe I missed it. I think the primary cats on the 4X4 are the same as the 4X2, and it doesn't look like you gain much, if anything, in clearance with the cats over the resos. It would be nice to know this answer, once and for all.

Someone out there will eventually have to make a 3.5" or bigger exhaust. Why? Because some of us crazies out there will need it for superchargers and/or turbochargers.
If the paltry 2L engine in my old WRX made use of a 3" turbo-back, why wouldn't the Titan, when pushing out, say, 500+WHP?

well a 3.5inch pipe would be nice when makin that much power but thats when it is makin that much power and for that we need to tune the ECU which we cant do yet so a 3.5inch exhaust would be over kill right now plus if your going to drop that much money on a SC/TC then you could afford a custom exhaust lol
