titan vs. titan

Hey everyone.. Haven't been here in ages..hope things are good in the titan crowd. Well i've finally broken in my titan (white king cab. now has 32xx miles have had it since mid december) and my buddy who owns a crew cab black titan (yes..the ying and the yang) and so he wants to see who has the faster titan... now he's got about 30 some thousand miles and i figure his will be a little faster since it's been more...erm...broken in? But he does have crew cab, more weight? and the guy weighs about 70-90 more lbs then i do... he also has a magnaflow muffler, which sounds awesome but has a tendency to pop.. hmm i'm gonna have a few questions actually. Sooooo what can i do to top the other titan? I think we're gonna run at pomona? around spring break time.. I'm bone stock.. any specific oil i should do as i do my oil change soon? Any grade gas i should run? How much should i have in my tank when i run? Anything worth investing? exhaust/intake/???? ?

Second thing.. with the exhaust, what's a good system with minimal popping? I'm more inclined to the dual exhaust out the butt, flowmaster/magnaflow/borla all sound find to me, i've listened to enough clips to realize that there is no "bad" sound they are all pretty aggresive I've got a few bills to play with on the truck..should i do intake if i do exhaust? what type of system, etc. I know all the info is here in the boards, but i'm looking for maximum output because in this race, it really comes down to the hardware, we both have the same engine, same tranny... isn't really driver skill since it's just smash the throttle.. so any tips to beating a fellow titan (and yes there is money on this race) Thanks and sorry for the long post. sheesh, that's long

---Colin-

Are both trucks equipped with Big Tow? I think the lower gear ratio on the BT is probably worth a solid 1-1.5 tenths in the 1/4. However, with his CC being a little heavier than your KC, that may offset the difference.

Disconnect the battery cables for a couple of hours (to clear the ECU). Drain the tank if you can. Run just enough gas to do the run and get to the pits. 1-1.5 gallons maybe? Put some octane boost or 104 race gas mixed with 91 to ensure no spark knock occurs. Take off the filter from inside the air-filter housing. Only do this when you make the 1/4 mile run though. Take off the spare tire. Take off the jack assembly and related items from under the rear seat. Leave the shifter in regular D not overdrive (D). Air down the rear tires some. I think that should do it. With him being 90lbs heavier, that's is almost a tenth right there. If you want more, you can always take off the tailgate and run smaller wheels like some 16" wheels/tires just for the run.

Maybe THE_HEAD will chime in here with more things you can do.

hmm sounds like a good way to go mike...thanks greg for the offer! means a lot, but i've heard the gibson online (i know it's not the same, but it's where i've done all my comparison tests)... i was hoping there would be a conclusion to which exhaust system/set up gives the most horses out of the box... seems a lot of people have those g-tech and dyno'd their trucks...hoped someone did a comparo, themselves or whatever... hmm... think i'm gonna go with the magnaflow though..or borla...or i dont know, hahaha which ever looks the best i guess. Thanks again for the tips mike..anyone else?

This sounds pretty risky to me, even for a single run. Why not just pop in an Air Hog or K&N panel filter?

Drop the spare and tailgate at the track in the pits. I'm not sure that the exhaust would be the way to go first as the Volant works pretty good. I wouldn't run anything over 93 octane in it. I'm not even getting detonation in mine with 89 for daily driving and at the track (no nitrous use with this gas). Fold your mirrors in. Make sure you try to get to the track with less than 1/4 tank in it. I run mine most of the time with the low fuel light on.

Before you leave the pits unhook your collectors and slide the exhuast back, or take it off. (not sure if it will help or hurt 1/4 times) but it might scare your buddy enough to screw him up or red light or chicken out (doubt it) haha.

Heck if you want to distract him, tape a centerfold to the window facing him and roll it up just before you stage and then honk the horn so he looks over.

D is overdrive. He (miketan) wants (the new thread author) to leave it in 4.

Why 4th? Why not put it in 3rd? Its not like he is going to use much of 3rd in the 1/4 mile anyways?!?
