Re: Resonators Removed...with sound clip

Kinda. The rasp increases in frequency as the RPM's rise and sounds........crackly(is this a word?)

I believe the clip on Magnaflows website demonstrates this trait.

It's throatier and deeper. There is just a very little hint of raspiness at the very upper end of the rpm range when floored. Although I think it had that before I pulled the resonators. If anyone is contemplating doing this, I highly recommend this low buck mod. This is the best bang for the buck, I think.

It sound good and your truck looks great..

Re: Resonators Removed...with sound clip

Okay... I finally found an exhaust guru in my area. I'd like to get y'alls opinion on the quote I got for the cost of this resonator modification (if ya dont mind).

2 Oxygen sensor nuts - $18.99 each = $37.98
2 Custom exhaust pipes $49.95 eash = $99.90
1 hour of Labor - $50.00 = $50.00

I bring the resonators. Approx. $80 depending on whether I get the Moroso's or Bullets or whatever else I dig up. He said he will actually take about 2.5 hours because he don't like to get in a hurry with custom jobs. Likes to get them done right (music to my ears).

Total paid to shop = $187.88 (w/out tax)
Total out of pocket = Aprox $267.88

Sounds fair to me. What do y'all think?

Another question. My exhaust guy recommended I definitely keep the total resonator length under 18". Preferrably 8"-10" without the nipples on the ends (but not crucial because they can be cut off). Also, to go with 2.25 in and outlets. I think 2.5 in/out is fine but I'm no exhaust guru.

He was concerned about the 02 sensors until I showed him your pic's, M95. Thanks for posting them.. I probobly wouldnt have convinced him without them.

M95, is there any way you could give the the part number for your Dynomax's?

RB, could you give me the part number for your Moroso's?

Anyone else use a Magnaflow Power Pack for their reso mod... or any other brand?

I'll do some more searching on this subject.... maybe those answers are already out there.

Thanks,

Flim

Flim, I think I paid around $160 to have the pipes made. I would go with the 2.5" piping and resonators. I don't have the part # (i believe it comes in only one length), but Summit Racing has it. If you could put up with the slight increase in noise and a bit more cracking/popping sound, then try it without the resonators. BTW, I think I was charged $5/ea for the O2 sensor nuts.

Well I have a 4x4 with cats so no Muffler shop around here will touch them. Are the 4x2 resonators the same size as The 4x4 cats??? So just an unbolt and swap fit??? Anyone know??
Could you get the shop to make another set of them??? why in the world would the 4x4 need 2 sets of cats??? What are they thinking same engine same smog right???

I'm pretty sure the 4x2 and 4x4 pipes are interchangeable. Try PMing Gr8titan about the mod (he has a 4x4). As to why the 4x4 has 4 cats I couldn't tell you.

Re: Resonators Removed...with sound clip

I had the same question. My 2006 Titan 4x4 also has the dual cat setup and the muffler shops here said not to screw around with them or could pay a healthy fine if caught. I went with a magnaflow muffler going into the stock exhaust with 3 inch pipe in and out. It really sounds good, not loud just mildly loud, and it rips......

Muffler shop said it wouldn't make any improvement to go with the dual exhaust setup that I wanted as this would accomplish the same thing, except the looks of the duals. oh well,.... It is a great truck, everyone needs at least one, maybe two.

Re: Resonators Removed...with sound clip

This place here is trying to get in on the Titan market, they have express willingness to make parts for the Titan. They were guaging interest in a BOLT-ON high flow cat. to replace the second set of cats. for 4x4 or resonator for 4x2.

Re: Resonators Removed...with sound clip

Your resonators should have absolutely nothing to do with any sort of fuel (or other) odor.

Re: Resonators Removed...with sound clip

Well it looks like this thread has been inactive for awhile but Im gonna do this mod tomarrow im curious why no one has tried a 3" midpipe. I guess if your catback uses 2.5" inch then a 2.5" makes perfect sense, but the banks uses 3" with their catback and I want a nice 3 inch system all the way through.

It's been done before. Is there a reducer from the Banks' system where it connects to the reso pipes?

Re: Resonators Removed...with sound clip

No it goes from the reso straight into 3" no reducer and it looks rediculous because it is so restricted before it enters the 3", thats why I think 3" midpipes would work better with the banks kit.

Re: Resonators Removed...with sound clip

Summit also sells 3" dynomax resos for 37 bucks a pop, but Im sure Ill enjoy the less restrictive sound of straight 3"

3" is definitely better with the Banks. rbtitan and the_head used 3" tubing with moroso resonators. If you don't mind a little more noise you can skip the resonator part and go straight thru.
