Someone needs to make an intake manifold

I was looking at dad's Armada, and could not believe how long the intake manifold runners are. It looks similar to the stock intake manifold on my 96 maxima. When I changed to a variable intake manifold (resonance tuned) available in the middle east and Japan, I picked up 10 peak whp, but at redline there is 50 more whp over stock. The old manifold used to peak at 5600 rpm on the hp, and the new manifold moved the peak to 6200 rpm, but power holds on all the way to 7200rpm, instead of falling like a brick.

I would bet a short runner intake manifold would pick up 20-30whp on the VK56DE, although it would sacrifice low end torque for top end hp. A variable design similar to what is on the 2k-2k1 maxima would work out best. Low end torque and top end horsepower.

There is a manufacturer (can't remember the name) that's already making a header for the Titan but people here said it's a short header and it's not worth the money. Do a search for header here, it's listed on E-bay for a few hundred $$$.

The intake runners on the Titan are longer for more bottom end torque (rightly so for a truck). If you went with shorter runners, yes you would gain more peak hp, but you would sacrifice all that low end torque these motors are known for...it would be a dog off the line

I want the torque, so I'm happy with the way it is. What makes me nervous is that it's plastic! This has been a huge problem for GM on the 3.4 V-6. Not sure if the Titans has coolant running up against the manifold gasket, but when it fails on the GM, it sucks coolant into the cylinders.

I agree the variable length would give best of both worlds for max top and bottom end, but I just don't see it happening for the Titan. The runner lengths are perfect, I think, for this motor and gearing combo. I'll trade some top end for low-mid range grunt any day.

Actually, I am glad it is a plastic/composite intake. You dont get heatsoak like you would an aluminum one would. I have the same thing on my GM LS1 and I have never heard of any problems with them...

On intake and exhaust manifold design considerations and goals you might want to check out my post over on the thread for 5.6L. I posted a very detailed SAE technical paper written by Nissan engine engineers. It covers just about every aspect of the engine.

5.6l?

It's at post #13.

I think they nailed it. I'd not want to give up any of the bottom end at all.
