To anyone else with this poblem, try this: get yourself a 3" 2-jaw puller (I picked one up for $3 from harbor freight). Remove the ball joint nut. Hook the puller arms onto the spindle, taking care that they don't contact the boot. Your puller will be upside down, with the arms coming up around the spindle, and the screw is underneath the joint. Set the screw of the puller on the end of the balljoint "bolt", and tighten just a little bit. You don't need much, just enough to put some tension on the joint. Now you really can "tap" the spindle with a hammer and the joint comes right apart.
I've put PRG kits on two trucks. The first one took me about an hour of exhausting work to get one spindle apart, and about 30 minutes on the other. I wasn't too keen on marring up my spindle with hammer blows. I tried a 3-jaw puller, but it just won't fit- don't even bother. I got the idea for the 2-jaw puller and bought one before I did my friend's truck. Total time for both spindles = 3 minutes.
