slipping on a flowmaster on stock piping

has anybody slipped on a 50 series flowmaster onto the stock piping and did you need to weld on hangers onto the muffler? Can I slip the muffler onto the pipes with no issue and save cost? I thought I would install the muffler and clamp it on, then take it to the shop and have them weld on a hanger and weld the joints.
Anybody have done this yet?
Chris

What type of flowmaster 40 or 50 series, center/center or center offset? I guess I need to look. Did you get it from Jegs or summit? Any pics you can share with me.

My Email is CEDROSTE@YAHOO.COM

Thanks

Did the same with a flowmaster 70 series

I like the sound, and not much drone at all at cruising speed. With a Flowmaster tip, it looks nice as well.

just click my profile below for the video clip...

hope this helps-

Thats because its a real shape oval muffler. the Canister sound in my opinion is not great, I had one on my SE-R and it sucks. too loud, huge interior cruising resonance and blatty. the Borla sounded tinty to me also. I hope the flowmaster 70 is a good deep sound with minimal head banging sound at cruising speed as you guys say it is. I may put one on my 92 SE-R also.

The 70 series looks bigger than the 50 series at my local store. so it should absorb more sound!

You guys should think about replacing the stock y pipe while you're down there.

Has anyone done this with a 4X4? From what I've read on this site there are some differences between the 4X2 and 4X4 exhausts systems. (resonators vs. no resonators?) How would this sound on a 4X4?

Can you just buy a new Y-pipe, or do you have to make one? Is the Y-pipe that restrictive? I saw a cutout of one before a while back, but I did not save the pic. Has someone got a pic or one that shows a new Y-pipe welded into the system?

Chris

I have heard(read) it said on this site that the y pipe is the most restrictive piece. I've heard you can buy them on ebay or from your local shop. Try a search......

I know flowmaster makes one for their cat back, but I don't think they just sell the Y pipe.

You are probably right about the Y pipe with exception of the CATs themselves.
