Question Volant Cold Air Intake Issues

What's up fellow titan owners! I am new to this forum but plan on getting involved with the community. Anyway I have questions regarding a new Volant Cold Air Intake I installed in my 2005 Titan SE Crew Cab. I don't know much about these things so perhaps someone can assist me in answering the following questions and concerns I have. First off, the CAI I have is located here:

Volant Cold Air Intake

My Questions are this:

1) - Where can I get the additional air scoop for this for a decent price, and is it worth it? Also - I notice now there is a cheap plastic cap covering where the scoop will go - should this be removed or am I supposed to leave that on if I don't have the scoop? It doesn't seem like it would stay on very long by itself.

2) - I get a LOUD rumble when my RPM's get up to around 3000. I can even feel it in my pedals - is this normal? Just seems like something is struggling at that point as I cant notice any increase in power when that huge sound kicks in.

3) - How do you "recharge" the filter that comes with these and how often should it be done? I received no instructions with my purchase on this and have no idea how to properly clean or oil these things.

I appreciate any help or pointers anyone can provide. I plan on sticking around for a while as there is so much I want to do to my Titan.

Thanks guys (and gals) !

34 people have read but no one wants to reply? :-(

If someone knows anything about these Volant issues please let me know - i would forever be indebted to you. Just got my Titan and do not want to mess anything up. Especially the question regarding the Loud rumble around 3000 RPM's and the Recharge question.

Thanks all! Been reading through past posts all morning - this site rocks!

You need to talk to Joe, he works for Volant and is a member here. Here's his profile: http://www.titantalk.com/forums/members/joe.html

You can email him here: joe@volantperformance.com

And you might want to read this post, it has some good info: ATT: Volant CAI Owners ! or prospective buyers

I installed the Volant last week. I used a gasket/sealer in a tube to make sure the cap does not fall off.

I did not buy the scoop because I have not read on these forums how much hp/tq will be picked up by using it.

Mine was supper loud, I just took it off after 2 weeks.
I would get that same rumble when hitting the gas, and then it would take off the a jet.
I thought that was the price you had to pay for the extra HP's.
Didn't think anything was wrong with it.

I had a similiar problem with my Volant. Wasn't so much a rumble as a annoying vibration that I could feel in the pedal and hear in the dash board. Putting extra screws in the cover didn't help. Removing the cover helped some, but removing the box completely cured it.

I've read lot's of posts from people who do not have this problem, leading me to believe it's not all that common. In any event, I'm fine with the box being gone. May get around to asking the Volant guy (Joe?) about it. Funny thing is they are located only a few miles from my office. Just haven't gotten around to it.

Regards,

John
