Running at the Track

Hey guys.. I'm thinking about running the Titan during Fun Day at the track on April 23rd. I'm only thinking about it, not a sure thing. I might not even go at all. But to run at the track a helmet is required..

Does anyone know where I could buy a cost-effective helmet. Most on Ebay are selling at $100+.. Thanks...

Between my son's there are maybe 3 in the garage.
I will ask if any are for sale.

What size?
Etc. Do you require?
Where are you located?

Wal-Mart has a bare basic helmet by BEll for under $100.

Its only DOT approved but would suffice for your need.

Take your pic http://www.walmart.com/catalog/searc...t&ics=20&ico=0

I race at several different tracks and I've never seen one, NHRA or IHRA, that requires a helmet in anything that runs 14's or 15's excelp for motorcycles, but call the track and ask, no use buying one if not required.

2005 NHRA Rule Book
A helmet is required for the driver of any car or truck running 13.99 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile, and for the rider of any motorcycle. Most drivers can use a helmet meeting SNELL M85, M90, M95, SA85, SA90, SA95 or K98 specifications. Professional category and some alcohol burning vehicles require an SA rated helmet. It is important to note that the helmet rating must be designated on a tag INSIDE the helmet, or sewn to one of the helmet straps. The designation stenciled on the exterior of the helmet is insufficient for NHRA technical inspection. Also, some tracks require a helmet on ALL drivers, so check in advance.

So does this mean I can't use my DOT rated full-faced MC helmet? Saw the SNELL rating, but not DOT. Thanks...

SNELL is a higher rateing than DOT, dont worry about it!
Most helmets will have both on the same tag.

Just borrow one...

...from another driver at the track. Most of the guys at tracks are really cool and would let you wear one if it's required. If it's not then you won't look stupid showing up with a shiny new helmet.

I'm in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The track is actually in Wisconsin, about a mile away. I was just there on April 10th for Sport Compact day. Brother in law wanted to run his Scion TC, but we had no helmet and they wouldn't let us run. Here are the requirements according to their website at www.rockfallsraceway.com.

**A helmet is required for ALL drivers of any vehicle down the racetrack. Most drivers can use a helmet meeting SNELL M85, M90, M95, SA85, SA90, SA95 or K98 specifications. It is important to note that the helmet rating must be designated on a tag INSIDE the helmet, or sewn to one of the helmet straps. Cool place. I did some work at the main 3M campus there in St. Paul and also did some work for them at the Cottage Grove facility.

Try Bob's cycle supply or the Hitching Post (motorcycle places) and see if they're having a clearance on stuff.
