Question Fuel Additives ?

I was just wondering does anyone use those fuel injector cleaners and octane boosters? I don't use them but do they do more harm than help?

I have never used anything on the Titan. I have used a couple things on other cars. One thing that has helped on some older cars is to put some Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas and in the oil to help quiet the engine. Other than that I have no idea.

ok one of the car gurus from another site I frequent was suggesting on using a fuel and oil treatment from www.lubecontrol.com he says people have seen an increase of 1-3mpg and it actually treats your whole fuel system not just the gas.

also here is a quote from the site about the oil treatment I find it hard to beleive but im still researching "Lube Control works so well at keeping your oil clean that we recommend you change your oil every 10,000 miles instead of every 3,000 miles saving both time and money. "

This is what he posted

Fuel power is one of the few gas additives that treats the entire fuel system as a whole, including the fuel itself. And before you go spouting off snake oil, check out the UOA results and hundreds of actual user feedback @ http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/...?ubb=forum;f=5

I havent used any of this stuff so take this lightly but now that I bought the titan I may try the fuel treatment

Yeah I was just wondering what other people are doing, I guessed not many would use them but I dunno and I don't want to do damage that I can prevent. I tried that Z-MAXX or something like that on my old car and lots of other additives and they seemed to work but it was probably my imagination wanting it to.

This is right out of the owners manual.

"Aftermarket fuel additives
NISSAN does not recommend the use of any
aftermarket fuel additives (for example, fuel injector
cleaner, octane booster, intake valve deposit
removers, etc.) which are sold commercially.
Many of these additives intended for gum, varnish
or deposit removal may contain active solvents or
similar ingredients that can be harmful to the fuel
system and engine.

I use Seafoam in the tank of the Titan and in the crankcase, vacuum line and gas tank of my Q45.

Follow the owners manual. You shouldn't need anything in your system until at least 50,000 miles. Then a really good mechanic that knows fuel injection systems is the best bet. IMHO

got my latest copy of sport truck magazine, and it has a little write-up on STP fuel system cleaners. apparently, their test vehicle with only 20k miles on it shown an improvement before/after with deposits on the valves. if you don't subscribe, just take a look the next time you are at the supermarket in the magazine section.

We took the Corolla in one time when it was about 2 years old because it wouldn't start. They told is that it was because of clogged injectors (yeah, right) and that we should use injector cleaner every now and then. Well, 5 years later, still haven't used any injector cleaner and the mysterious clogged injector problem never returned.
