If you're talking about running them from the headers back, which removes your cats.

Yes, it's illegal.

Horrible sound, too. Straight piped race engines sound great at 5000RPM, but they sound like crap in the RPM ranges our trucks are typically cruising in (1500-1800rpm).

here in texas

it is illegal to replace anything befor the 02 sensor, and yeah our trucks sound likes shi* with the pipes off i had mine off for a day while working on (straight pipe resonator mod) and it sucked...plus hurts the gas mileage too. But technically ive always heard that if you remove cat no matter what its illegal and if you run straight pipe from the cat then its legal as long as you pass emissions

well I had dual 2.5" straight pipes with a h-pipe and man everywhere I went people turned their heads gave me compliments and asked about it, it also set off car alarms and was heard from well very far away. It pops a lot but sounds cool think of a harley sorta. I just welded in a magnaflow since I will be towing a boat and dont think that would be a very fun trip with those pipes. I am however going to put in cut outs or dumps that I can open when I feel like bein really loud.

Did you replace the secondary cats / resonators with straight pipes, or the primary cats up by the manifolds?
It sounds like you just did the "resonator delete":
3" Straight Pipes Installed

it doesnt sound like crap like I said it sounds badass and will turn more heads than any other truck on the street however dont just pull of the stock exhaust and have it poor from the resonators as then its dumping right under the cab and will be way to close for comfort. also make sure to put a h or x pipe to help get rid of some of the rasp it has without it

if anyone can host a video for em I have a little fly by my friend took I could have him email it to someone

I had mine off at the resonators to install a new cat-back system and found that I was 1 piece short of having everthing that I needed for the new system. Drove it to work and back, 60 miles with no exhaust . It ran OK, but had no power taking off.

Without the muffler, of course you would lose power. You need a bit of back pressure for the low end. If you had a supercharger or turbo setup, I could see having dumps or something, but ONLY if you were going to spend all your time near redline. Otherwise you are just hurting yourself.
If you are making the Titan into an NHRA drag truck, maybe go with open pipes. For daily driving, performance would only suffer.
