I don't mean to highjack this thread. But what Gr8t is doing is somewhat fixing the global warming problem, according to the links.
While following the links to "How stuff works" and learned about catalytic converters, I found this: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/framed...s2/catalyt.htm
I guess for those environmentalist, this mod is a must!!
Now I don't save whales or trees on my days off but this info make me feel very justified with this mod. I knew there was something good out of this I just couldn't figure out. LOL!!
Enclosed are some close-up photos of the SS resonators replacing the ugly cats I took before I broke my camera.
"But researchers have suspected for years that the converters sometimes rearrange the nitrogen-oxygen compounds to form nitrous oxide, known as laughing gas. And nitrous oxide is a potent greenhouse gas, more than 300 times more potent than carbon dioxide, the most common of the gases, that is warming the atmosphere, according to experts."
Does that mean if you somehow rerouted your exhaust gas into your engine it would work like nitrous? Or is that somthing different? I didn't really understand it

Hek, just reroute the 'happy' gas to the cab and you'll never be sad again....lol!

Now if we can just take the primaries off and find the right tubing diamater so as not to affect the low-end of the power curve, we'd have it made.
hell, I need to resurrect this. I need to get something similar done. I guess high flow reso's will help ADD backpressure I might loose with a catback and equal length longtube  good for towing maybe keep TQ and HP low in the powerband. I'm not one who wants peak numbers on my truck. I waas thinkin bout punching the secondary cats but I think I'll do straight pipes or nice shiney reso's.
Looks great man, fitting name for your Titan. the chrome on the front looks nice too. personal prefrence I don't like the racks. I'd pull them off and only use them when I need them

I was looking for a company to do custom headers and came across this info by www.ssheaders.com/header.htm Header 101: "First misconception that needs to be cleared up is that certain amount of backpressure is needed for optimum performance. A good header not only relieves backpressure but should go one step further to create vacuum in the system. This is called scavenging."
There's more about header design, tube length, exhaust sequencing, tri-y pipes, etc. in this article that are very interesting.
I have Tri-y on my focus and love it. ceramic coated aluminum is what I think it's made of but after a year it looks nicer than my T304 SS downpipe thats bolted to it. my tri-y has a nice scavenging I believe with the three y's the final collector is nice too.
I guess equal lengths are overrated is what your saying? I've never used one just the header I got was supposedly the best header on the market for my car so I got it.

For "torquers" like the Titan where the peak power is achieved in the 3,000-4,000 RPM, long tube equal length headers are a must to keep and increase power in the low RPMs. However, for "screamers" like your 4 cyl Ford Focus where peak power is high (over 6500) in the RPM band, short headers are more of a benefit.
That is why the JBA shortie headers (good for "screamers") never worked well for the Titan because the peak torque is produced around 3600 RPM.
Hey gr8titan, what brand/model are those resonators? I'm looking to replace my oem (2WD) resos with something that doesn't neck down. I've found small mufflers, but I think most are too long to fit there. I had the oem resos removed, but the install is pretty sloppy and now I get the popping sound under WOT. You wouldn't happen to be selling your factory forward pipes would you?

Hey Sammy, nice to hear from you!
Sorry man, I am keeping the "punched out" secondary cats for future emergency just in case I need to swap them when my Titan is due for it's first visual inspection in 2 years.
However, I ordered my straight flow resos from Modern Performance for $47 apiece delivered and am very happy with their performance. I have yet to hear my exhaust "pop" at WOT. It also made the idle & accelaration tone a tad deeper like my old 71 GS Skylark with Hooker headers. More photos of my reso install here.
NO, mine are longtube 4 into 2 into 1, Tri-Y, NO CAT. loads of torque and hp low rpm. Just not equal length. tuned headers like said in the linked page are only tuned for a certain rpm range. mine pull from down low - 7,200rpm. car makes it makes peak around 4500-5500 btw. 5,500 is stock engine shut off redline. kicks back on after rpm drops. I have a chip though so I can rev to 7200 and O2 cheat and other stuff so no CEL from lack of cat convertor.
JBA and other shorties suck bad on my car. 2whp for $300 lol. no way is it even worth having a shiney piece of metal in there for that much...

That's understandable, sorta why I still have my oem exhaust in the corner of my garage. I don't think you'll have any problem passing emissions since you still have your cats. It's my theory that Nissan installed those second cats on the 4WD Titans as a spark arrestor, not for any emissions reasons.
If I ever get a welder I'll probably end up installing something like those resonators with some straight 2.5" pipe from the headers back. Should help get rid of the crackling I now hear. Another thought I had was installing resos down stream from the muffler, just prior to tips, in an effort to get rid of the drone. I'm contemplating just trying all different kinds of configurations till I get it sounding right then redoing the whole thing with new tubing.

Sammy...if you don't want/need SS bullets, like gr8titan's, you can go with the 2.5" aluminized steel Dynomax Race Bullets, like myself and m95roadster have done. They are $31/ea at summit racing. The O2 bungs were $5/ea, also from summit. No rasp or popping at all. Also, you'll need more than just a welder to do these yourself. There are several subtle bends necessary for alignment of the flanges. I watched the shop tech do mine, and it took him about 3 hrs to do both sides. Got mine done as a side job, so luckily he only charged me $30/side for labor and flanges.
My theory on the reason for the rear cats, based on asking the question numerous times to exhaust shop owners, is vehicle weight. The 4wd's weigh more, thus slightly more toxic emissions due to increased engine load. I believe both 2wd and 4wd Armadas have rear cats, probably for the same reason...weight. It's the only thing that really makes sense to me, so far.
Here's a couple pics of m95's reso's...mine are pretty much identical.

Hmmm, I was thinking a straight pipe with the right angles cut on either end so it would line up with the flanges would work. The pipes don't apear to be snaked around anything. I wish I had a decent exhaust shop around here to do something like that, but I don't.

You might be just fine doing it that way. I just remember watching the guy make numerous trips between the truck and the bender for each bend until he got the flanges to line up.
Ah, hek...just get ya some of that flexible steel tubing and mount a couple of flanges on it....no bender necessary...lol!
