Hmmm, I was thinking a straight pipe with the right angles cut on either end so it would line up with the flanges would work. The pipes don't apear to be snaked around anything. I wish I had a decent exhaust shop around here to do something like that, but I don't.
I would strongly suggest against the use of straight pipes in your situation. If you are having the dreaded "drone" and "popping@WOT" now, the probability is high that they will get worse with the straight pipe in lieu of the stock resos. m95's 4x2 had straight pipes replacing the OE resos and he preferred the more civilized tone of his exhaust with the Dynomax race bullets. And I bet RockyMtnTitan is happy with his Dynomax performance too.
The bends involved in putting the Dynomax bullets together for the Titan are so subtle that your local Meineke or Midas should be able to do it inexpensively

Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant a straight piece of pipe with the reso on there, versus one with the slight bends. So it would go straight from the forward flange to the rear flange. The alignment would be made with proper angle cuts on either end of the pipes. Right now I'm not running any resonators, that's why I'm now getting the crackling. I've already had the local exhaust shop give it a try and they jacked it up, so I'm looking at other options.
For us californians, we can't touch the cats... Or that's what I assume ....
looks good
That's national. However, some states don't check. Love FL again.
Be aware, there are high flow cats that look good, work as well as standard cats, and flow as well as a straight pipe.
Here's a good one. http://www.randomtechnology.com/

Sammy, another option would be "resonator tips". I came across these Monza big bore resonators (pics enclosed and yes I planned to paint the insides a different color. LOL) and was planning to use them on some other car project. I do not know how they would look like or perform on the Titan but these will be easy install without special equipment or they could be tack welded for almost nothing.
I saw some other resonator tips that looked alot better than those. Checkers had them... I think other automotive shops sell them as well. I was thinking of getting the 3A smaller version - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-NEW...99260637QQrdZ1 its nice.
For those of you who have replaced the oem forward pipes, where did you find the right flanges? I've looked all over Summit and couldn't find them. Also, I was able to find several different bungs there, which model are you using?

Thanks.
Here's the link to the bungs I bought from Summit for $4.99/ea. They are the first ones you'll see on the page (Summit brand). Steel 18X1.5mm.
As far as the flanges, the shop stocked them...they just used standard 2-bolt, 2.5" flanges. I had them re-use the oe metal gaskets which were on the rear flanges and put them on the forward flanges, as I didn't want them to leak, since they're harder to get to, and others have had leaks when the metal gaskets weren't used. The stock forward flanges had no gasket, just a donut type compression fit. For the rear flanges the shop just used standard fiber gaskets with some high temp sealer. I didn't want to put out another $25 or so for the Nissan gaskets. I've had no leaks so far, after about 3-4,000 miles.

I found this Thread and realize this is from about 4 months ago but maybe somebody can answer a question for me. I have a 2004 Titan 4x4 with the off road package. I have been trying to decide on what exhaust to get for my truck and at this time can't make up my mind. From what I understand my truck has the 4 cats just like this whole treads been about. From what I understand is the 2 wheel drive titan, or maybe just the titans without the off-road package, only have 2 cats. So can I just take off the second cats on my truck and purchase an exhaust for the 2 wheel drive model (the model that only has 2 cats)??? Would this not eliminate the 2nd cats and the exhaust will fit perfectly?
I am assuming there must be some other differences between the two exhausts or everyone would just be doing this? But I thought I would ask if anyone has tried to install the 2 wheel drive exhaust on the 4x4 off-road package truck and eliminated the 2 extra cats? Aftermarket exhaust, of course.
Generally, most after-market exhaust are "cat-backs" systems, meaning they are connected to the rear flange of the "secondary cats" of all 4x4s or rear flange of the "resonators" of all 2x4s. The termination point downstream of either "cats" or "resos" is exactly the same point and this is where all cat-back systems are connected to. Cat-back systems are inter-changeable between 4-wheel and 2-wheel Titans regardless of other factory options (eg: Big Tow, etc).
Your inquiry is very valid though because you may be able to purchase a pair of OE "resonator sections" of a 4x2 and replace your (4x4) secondary "cat sections" with them. However, the biggest drawback with OE parts from the dealer are the prohibitive part retail costs.
Another factor you may have to consider is this: A TT member, m95roadster, dissected his 4x2 resos after he initially replaced them with straight pipes and found out that they are very restrictive and "narrows" severely at some point. He eventually ended up using some bullet resos instead. OE resos are not a good replacement for your "cats" if you are looking for performance gain.
You're better off "punching" the guts out of the catalysts of your stock secondary cats and re-using then as straight pipes. But remember to remove them first before doing this then re-install.
I have a 2004 xe 2wd, from what I have read and observed on my truck,it has 2 cats and 2 resonators. I am considering blowing out (breaking up) the resonaters for bothe performance and fuel millage upgrades. Has any one done this before, especially to the resonators,I have done cats on other autos but never resonaters. Are they able to be broken apart like cats?

No, a resonator is like a miniature muffler. It's a small glass-pack, nothing obstructing the flow except that it necks down to about 1 7/8"
