k & n question

has anyone with the k&n filter mod has added anything to make airflow better.reason why i ask is because i was cleaning my filter today and i notice on the side pannel off the truck the way its designed the air comes in through the front of the truck through the side pannel and there is a cut out where the filter is allowing air into the engine compartment but i think most of the air just goes straight through the pannel and not to much into engine area.i was think of making a mod with a tub from the cut out hole for the engine area going into the pannel so when the air comes in it will be force into engine area.do any of you think this will improve performance or a waste of time

I assume you are talking to people with the K&N CAI's, correct? I have a K&N dropin/panel filter and don't have a gap like what it sounds like you are describing.

I though about it too. Almost a ram air design. I have to say that I realy don't think it will do much. It wouldn't be that much of a positive air flow into the area with the filter. I also, tossing ideas around thought about an elect fan for that opening. They make fans for some computers that might have a air movement strong enough to keep up with the eng, but there isn't any real way seal off the rest of the eng compartment. Well, if you have time. Give it a shot.

I've thought aboout this too.

I was thinking more about putting a "stop" of some sort about 1" behind the hole so the air would have no where else to go but into the air filter hole. The pressure caused by not being able to pass through and being forced into the air filter air would be pretty substantial - I think.

I'm just not sure on how to or what would be used to stop the air or create the stop...maybe some aluminum thin enough to be bent and then how would it be secured inside to insure it doesnt give way against the air coming in...

Ideas? Thoughts?
