My Volant CAI came today but it was missing the rectangular sponge that goes in between the bottom of the box and the top of the fenderwell.
I called Volant and they said they would get one to me but I wanted to install it tomorrow.
What material is this made of? Can I buy something to substitute for it that would work at an autoparts or hardware store?? Is this sponge form fitted or is it just flat? I know this part is important for noise reduction....but isn't there something else I can use?? Or should I just wait for Volant to send me the replacement?

The purpose is more for sealing the box to the fender opening than for noise reduction. You could try to find something close as a replacement at Lowes, Home Depot, etc, or just install w/o it for now until Volant sends out the new one. Won't hurt running w/o the seal, it just won't pull 100% of it's air from outside the engine compartment....no big deal. The seal is just a length of weather strip with a groove on one side that fits around the opening lip to the air box.

No, I have the seal that lines up with the opening in the fender. What I am missing is the rectangular foam pad that goes underneath the bottom of the box itself. And I think this is for noise/vibration reduction.

definately get a rubber / foam pad for underneath the air box or you'll end up with a rusty fender after the box rubs all the paint off. HomeDepot or Lowes should have something in the weatherstrip / hardware isle - or call Volant directly - they have great customer service - speaking from experience when the first Titan owners to get the Volant went through 3 re-designs and Volant stood behind their product & everyone got the final design with proper fitment.
1. Wait until you get it
2. Install without it, a few days won't hurt
3. Go to hardware, buy sticky back foam to use instead
4. sheet of 1/8" neoprene will work, etc. etc.
If I were you, I'd wait. Shoot, I waited a good 6 months for Volant to get the box right and the Ram Air right before I installed mine, a few days or a week won't kill you and you will only have to install it one time.

Sorry, my bad...should've read a little closer!
When I had my Volant several months ago, I added some extra adhesive-backed sheet foam on top of the one supplied by Volant. Bought it at Hobby Lobby. Another member posted at one of the sites, maybe both, that he re-used the rubber mounts from his factory box to isolate the vibration resonance.
My new Volant is coming, hopefully next week....more on this later.
