Question Exhaust Question

For those of you that have aftermarket exhausts, (Single in/dual out) do you find that your gas mileage is better or worse? I'm getting ready to install the flowmaster 50 series muffler and was wanting some input on this. Thanks.

I have the flowmaster 50SUV version which was installed at the same time as a k&n 77 series intake. the flowmaster 50suv is a little quieter than the 50 but not as much as the 70. my mileage hasnt changed much from what i can tell, but i only have 3300 miles on it so far and still on the original oil (gotta get this changed soon). I tend to drive my truck hard and average about 14ish mpg.

heres a ? for those who've had one for a while, would you recommend resetting the ecu/throttle/accelerator?

Do you mean the 50 SUV it is louder that the 70 series? You say "not as much as the 70" ... a little confused as to what you ment by that.

I hope so. The 50 suv single in dual out is the muffler I will be putting on this weekend.

I was looking for something louder that the 70 but not as loud as the 40 series.I hope the 50suv will fall into this catagory.

I have a 70 series FM and my mileage increased by 1.5 mpg. I keep diligent records of my mileage and am confident that the increase was due to the exhaust. That increase in mileage ensures that the exhaust kit will pay for itself in fuel savings in about 18 months. Plus the sound is spectacular.

Thanks for the info. I'm hoping to get somewhat better gas mileage.

I had similar results after installing my 70. I kept careful records for several months prior to and after the install.

Question

Is there a big difference other than looks between a single in/dual out and a single in/single out FM? Just wondering what benefits one would be over the other.

Probably not an appreciable difference, more for looks than anything.

Most folks say you lose a little bit of torque with the dual exhaust. Not a lot and probably not enough to even notice unless doing a dyno.

I've heard the same thing as well. Not sure how true this is, but I will be going with the FM 50 series single in/dual out. I just wasn't sure if there is any benefit of having a single in/single out versus single in/dual out muffler.

i noticed a slight loss in low end torque. after adding a X-pipe (or H-pipe), i got a lot of that lost power back. i am happy

for whoever is doing a dual in, dual out i HIGHLY reccommend using a crossover pipe before the muffler (X or H)
