Question Drop in Filter - a waste? Intake inevitable

Okay, please give my your honest opinions. I'm planning on buying the exhaust early next week (Banks or Gibson...going to literally be coin toss) and do plan to install almost right away. Now from reading several posts...intake & exhaust combo is the way to go to get the most performance.

Now budget wise...I will have to wait on the AEM or the Volant (most likely literally another coin toss) since I'm dropping dough on the exhaust, PRG kit, and install all in a week. I don't want to be disappointed with the exhaust and want some impact right away. I was thinking, for just 30-40 bucks, of buying a Fram air hog filter (after reading previous posts) and dropping that in w/ the exhaust until I save (or am allowed by the wife) to get the intake (est. 4-6 weeks).

Think it'll be waste of a few bones to go that route?

Option 1:
New exhaust + stock intake, more money saved for intake but less performance

Option 2:
New exhaust + drop-in-filter, better performance off the bat but out 40 bucks when intake arrives. Do people buy used drop in filters often?

Option 3:
Don't install new exhaust, wait for the intake, then install together.

What do ya'll fellow Titan owners think? And I don't really want to pass on the PRG kit.

Thanks in advance ya'll, just lookin' for opinions.
Also thought I'd ask, is anyone very happy with just an aftermarket exhaust and drop-in?

Hey flip,

I don't have either of the things you're getting, yet. So I hate you, but beyond that, option 1 would be best. With the drop-in filter, you're not going to see much improvment. That's a good chuck towards your CAI. Also, you will probably see some improvement with the exhaust, if nothing else, people will know your coming!

Remember as some have pointed out, and you amy want to search exhausts-I wouldn't, too many, but you might want to. Some have said certain exhausts, and I forget which one, there's a loss of torque at low end. So keep that in mind as well.

Either way, good luck with your new toys, and post a pic or two when you can!

You can modify your intake for increased flow by removing the curve upper shell with a dremel tool. This along with a high flow filter would give you pretty close to the same affect as a new intake. You can also add a TB spacer and remove the O ring screen. Just my opinion...... Less money...same results.

I did this mod on the airbox and I think it helped. I then put a K&N drop-in airfilter and got squat for gains at the dragstrip. There is a thread about that somewhere here. I then went to the Volant and dropped another 0.1 sec in the quarter mile. I already had the Banks exhaust and resonators deleted, though.

If you want the exhaust for some better sound, then I say go for that since you would at least be getting that out of it along with about 8-10hp.

The head is right.Go with the exhaust then get an intake when funds permit. If nothing else you will enjoy the sound of your new exhaust.

With your statement of wanting "some impact right away", and if this is what you are looking for, install both intake (Volant or AEM) and exhaust (Gibson or Banks) upgrade at the same time for maximum "seat of your pants" torque feel.

But I agree with "the head" and install an aftermarket exhaust now and enjoy the "music" and some mid level performance gain
