I apologize in advance for asking some questions that are addressed in many other threads, but I just want to be 100% sure before I commit. I have been looking at the Volant CAI and ram air scoop for what seems like forever, but I just have not committed yet.
I have a LE CC 4x4 (and offroad package) and would like to install both the Volant CAI and ram air scoop. Here are my questions:
- Will the ram air scoop work with a 4x4? I have read in many places that you have to remove a tow hook which I am ok with, but in some threads I have seen that it will not work with the offroad package and/or 4x4. Is this true or is it just that you have to remove a tow hook?
- I have read pciley's long discussion on different versions of the CAI and I believe that Joe at Volant will only have the newer version. If there a different version of just the CAI (for LE) or is there also different versions of the ram air scoop?
- If you install only the CAI, is there a cap or something to cover the where the ram air scoop would connect to the CAI?
I have looked at 37L1's photo gallery and read many of 37L1's and pciley's posts, but I am still not completely sure if all this will work with a 4x4. Thanks.
They were working on a ram air scoop for the offroad 4x4, the problem is the skid plate with the present ram air version.
Ask Joe your questions, he will be able to tell you more.
You could always use the cap and close off the ram air vent and just go with the CAI without the scoop.

I realize you have read all the threads, but just wondering -- if you have a 4x4 do you really want a ram air scoop that exits down that low? Go through some deep water, even on the street, and it will suck it right up. If you are lucky, the air filter will soak it up and it will not get past. If it gets past . . . well water does not compress. Can you say "bent connecting rod?"
And I don't know of anyone posting their dyno and quarter mile times on the "sticky" to have noted any performance gains from the ram air scoop.
If you like it and want it, go for it, but I'm just wondering about whether there is much demand for it on a 4x4 and whether that is the best idea, all things considered.

I had already emailed Joe and not gotten any response yet. I have his number so I am just going to call him, but I was trying to have some data so I did not ask too many
questions.
Armada,
Kind of a long story why I have a 4x4. I will rarely (if ever) use 4x4 nor do much (if any) "off roading". Basically I wanted my specific Titan and the only model I could find was a 4x4 and I was able to get a pretty good price so I just went with 4x4. Thanks for the comment on dyno times with/without the ram air scoop, I kind of thought there was minimal gain.
Call him, he's a good guy and will take the time to answer any questions you might have.

I have the new Ver 3 Volant CAI, so you may want to wait until you see my post and pics....may help with your decision. I will start a new thread sometime today with pics. This newest version has been in the works for about 6 months, and has some improvements as far as fitment and looks....performance will be the same.

Just when I thought I was ready to commit!!!! Thanks to all for the replies. I did look at RockyMtn's pics and my current plan is to with a Ver 3 and either forget about the ram air scoop or wait to hear for sure that an off-road compatible scoop is available.
