it says 17hp at 3500 rpm, not peak. The graph only goes to 5000 rpm also, looks like it is losing over stock at that point, I would like to see a chart that goes to redline. The hp has gains and losses, so it might average out to about the same over the whole curve. The torque does look better though.

Okay, I just spoke with the operator at aFe. MSRP is $425 and they do not sell factory direct. I'm guessing it can probably be had for quite a bit less. She said the web page has a list of authorized dealers to order from.

Seems kinda pricey, but I'm sure they want to compete w/ Volant, K&N, etc, so the actual price should be a lot lower.

What I find interesting in the ad pic you posted, is that they decided to copy the factory's resonance chamber because it boosted low-end torque. I thought that was just to cut intake noise....interesting. Maybe I should hack the one of my factory tube and put it on my Volant....what's the worst it would do...make it a little quieter...lol!

Those chambers do in fact boost the low end. It's been proven on a Miata if you remove it you lose 4 ft lbs.

Yeah, but I have yet to see a dyno chart that showed anything under 3000 rpm.

In all honesty, I don't know if any of these intakes are worth their price. In all the vehicles I've put them on I always felt like I wasted my money.

Unfortuantely we dont have a Miata engine in our truck so we could actually use that little tidbit of info.

There are lots of posts here and other forums that adding a CAI loses bottom end torque. FYI, I was giving an example where removing a resonance chamber was proven to lose torque.

So by doing the Stock Airbox mod on our Titans, we are losing torque? Or is that a different piece?

So if removing this resonance chamber loses torque, why doesn't K&N, Volant and others include it as a part of their kits?? I'm cornfused...

Costs more. Plus it doesn't do a thing for top end gains. If you ever look thru a japanese performance mag you will see lots of intakes with unusual shapes and designs. It's basically tuning the intake piping.

Yeah, I've heard of tuning the intake via tube diameter and length to move the powerband up/down the rpm range...similar to tuning headers/exhaust. So do you think this affects torque because you are adding a slight amt of volume to the intake, or is it something else?

At any rate, it sounds like some experimentation is in order here. Why not, right?!

I believe this is resonance tuning (sound waves) as opposed to tuning via velocity (length and diameter). Hell, I don't know!

I do like the AFE filters. They look like a very well made filter, and supposedly have a lower pressure drop with deeper pleat design than others like K&N, Volant, etc. I think I'll call them and see how much they want for just the filter, and throw it on my Volant setup.
