Out with the Flowmaster 70....In with the Borla XS (With Sound Clips)

Since I hate to type ...this is a copy/paste from another site.

Well, today I received my new Borla XS 3" X 2.5" SI/DO 304 SS muff. Soon as I got the call, I called the bossy up and said "I'm takin' off the rest of the day...got some important bizness to attend to"...haha! In my mind...I wasn't lying.

I have the Flowmaster American Thunder cat-back kit which came with the 70 series muff, which I've been running for approx 5K miles. It was just time for a change, hoping for a little better performance and possibly a reduction in cab drone. I really like the Flowmaster mandrel-bent piping and nice Y-pipe, so I kept all that and just swapped the muff. Turned out to be a nice match up. Acceleration feels improved, and in-cab drone is slightly reduced. The sound outside is very nice, although I always loved the FM sound too. The Borla has a nice throaty note like the FM, but has a lower tone to it.

Got a great deal on the Borla (p/n 40349). Bought it on ebay for $84 + shipping...list is like $160.

While at the shop, I finally found someone who will (on the side..wink,wink) install my Dynomax bullets in place of the rear cats....should be done this weekend. Been trying to get this part done for months now. Planning on doing a 3rd dyno when finished.

I'll post a sound clip or two, soon as I get a chance.

I was thinking of swapping to a Borla as well. I currently have the Flowmaster 50 3"in/dual 2 1/2" out truck/suv performance series muff. The sound is nice, low deep rumble (probably louder than the Flow 70), there is a drone but it is BARELY louder than stock and it is a pleasant sound... to me anyway.

I was originaly going to get a Borla but I was looking at a Borla "XL" NOT a "XS" like you have (what's the diff?) The Borla XL was around $215!! And it was 3" in and dual 2 1/4" out(I wanted 2 1/2" out plus it seemed a little pricey>

I like your muffler because...1)it is affordable $84?? where can I get one? 2) it is dual 2 1/2" out and 3) it's a Borla

I wonder how it would compare to my 50 series flow. Would it be an upgrade? The reason I am looking for another muffler is that the Flow 50 just isn't quite loud enough believe it or not. I am looking for a more agressive/deeper tone but I am still afraid of going to the Flow 40.

Post some sound clips ASAP hahaha

I was looking at the XL initially, but wanted the 2.5" outlets since that's what I had. I asked Borla what the diff was between the XL and XS was, and they basically told me they both flow the same and have the same tone. The XS is just a mass produced version and are only available through dealers, whereas the XL can be bought direct from Borla. Both are 304 SS and have million dollar warranty, but if bought from an ebayer the warranty would probably not fly, he said, because those guys are not authorized dealers. This didn't worry me at all....with 304 ss, it will outlast my truck.

I think it may flow better than your 50 series, but I can't say how it will sound in comparison.

Here's a link to the ebayer I bought mine from....he doesn't show any of the 40349's now, but contact him and see if he can get ya one.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...sPageName=WD1V

I'll have sound clips by this afternoon....hopefully.

Sounds very similar to my Flow 50. Although I think the sound clip may not sound exactly like it would in person. Anyway, sounds good!

Copy Cat

Happening bro. I hear you managed rubber in that high elevation. Sounds great as expected. I truly enjoy driving the Titan more since the Borla. I haven't made it to the dyno to check on the difference if any. I may wait until my next mod. Hopefully a programmer of some sort.

So the XS was easier from an installation perspective due to inlet, outlet sizes.
I remember reading the XL was for more HP engines vs. the XS. I believe it was 350HP and above they recommended the XL. According to the dyno's I've done -20 to 25% loss for the 4X4 I'm around 350,60 crank or so. It's interesting Borla didn't mention that. Anywho good stuff. Talk to you later.
