Volant CAI question

I just bought the Volant CAI for my truck and I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not I can use the K&N filter charger kit that I already own or is there a kit that is specific to the Volant? Also, when it arrives, is it oiled sufficiently or will I need to clean it all out and start fresh. Any help would be appreciated here.

When I bought that filter charger stuff I assumed it was universal. More than likely as soon as you take it outta the package you can put it right in your truck. My question is what is the ver 3 volant cai? I am going to buy a volant real soon so I don't know if I should just get the ver 2 or wait till they get all the problems fixed with the ver 3.

I have the Volant as well. The filter should have come already oiled and ready to install. I wouldn't use the K&N charger kit because I think it is indeed different from the Volant charger kit (which I don't have ....yet)

At some point he's going to need to clean that new filter. My guess is the K&N oil and cleaner will be fine.

um typically companies such as injen and AEM have k&N make the filters for them I am not sure about volant. but the K&N charger kit should be fine. but like I always suggest look into S&B air filters.

How often should you clean and oil the Volant intake?

No set time, just do it when it gets dirty. It may take 3000 or 10,000 miles depending on the conditions you drive in.

Be careful about using the K&N cleaning and oil kit. JetTech said that it is a heavier oil than the Volant (i think). He also said that because the Volant uses a lighter oil it needs to be checked more often. I have the Volant and a brand new K&N kit from my Tahoe that is just begging to be used but I'm ordering the Volant kit. Better safe than sorry.

Hey V, I have a K&N drop-n and might need to get a cleaning kit. Might be willing to work something out with ya to take it off your hands if I don't get a CAI before I need to clean my filter.

NO! You don't want to use K&N's recharge kit.

The cleaners are interchangable, but the oil with the K&N kit is thicker. The K&N OIL is what is causing their intakes to ruin the MAF sensor. It gums up alot more than the Volant oil.

You can get big bottles of the K&N filter "cleaner" cheap, but buy Volant's oil.

Yes, the oil is thinner. Yes, you will need to re-oil more often.
I have to do mine every oil change, and sometimes the filter needs a light re-oiling in between as well. Just visually inspect it every 3000 miles or so.

It helps to have a SECOND filter that is already cleaned and re-oiled. I Keep it in a Ziploc Bag and then just swap on the run and clean the other one later.

I never really understood why the oiling was so important. What exactly is it for?

Very simple. It keeps dirt from passing through the element and entering the intake. The dirt sticks to the oil and is not allowed to pass. Without the oil, you'll trash the motor.

Word!
Also, without the oil, the sponge filter membrane drys out and breaks down. The small particles that result will be carried into the engine .... / ....
Just oil the filter or you will void your 1,000,000 mile filter warranty.
