Borla Exhaust

I've been looking at some exhausts and really like the Borla. Why is is though that the pipe comes down in front of the rear diff? It seems like they could just keep it up higher, closer to the body and out of harm's way and still run it out the back. It really doesn't make sense to me. That is a really vulnerable place for piping to be and it could be crushed or smashed on a rock or something. Also what do people think of the tip placement of this exhaust. Most duals that I have seen in the past are positioned a bit more inward, toward the hitch. This might not be possible with the large spare under the rear end, but I think it looks better inward more. Thanks!

I wish I could answer your questions but I don't have the cat-back version. I have Gibson exhaust piping with a Borla Turbo XL. After my stainless Gibson piping finishes rusting I was considering the Borla cat-back. I really want the side exits as seen in my custom here. I'm not sure if Borla offers a side exit cat-back. These are borla tips as well on the Gibson piping.

The reason the came down in front of the diff is because the didn't want to run pipes that will be hot across the top and risk melting some of the wiring and hydrolic lines up there. I have one on my Titan and I can tell you it sounds great and there is hardly any resonance at 1700-2000RPM. I love it.

Hey ecbmxer - This is Tony again. I read the rest of your post and want to see if I can answer you question. First as far a crushing the system on a rock or something else...the piping does not come below the diff. If you crush the piping on a rock your diff gets it as well. The Borla system was engineered to work with the OEM spare tire and hitch. The Borlas system may not work with a larger aftermarket tires or aftermarket hitch. Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the responses, I think I've decided to try the Banks when I get some money. I'm not gonna fool with the piping in front of the diff or melting wires or rusting out from what I hear (w/ Gibson ss). When it goes on (not soon, don't get hopes up) I'll post pics and everything.
