Do the tips effect the exhaust sound?

I was thinking about moving my borla exhausts from a rear exit to behind the wheels and I'd just pay a (reputable) muffler shop to bend new steel for me and put different tips on them.

Thanks

In my case the tip does make a difference. The Banks without a tip is a little louder than stock. Banks with tip is pure enjoyment and turns even grandma's head.
Hope this helps.

It also maikes a difference in the cabin. That big ole megaphone, donkey dong amplifies the sound both inside and out. I like it better without, but hey, I have (on my shelf) the exhaust tip that set a Guiness record for both size and sound.

I installed a Custom Exhaust system, front to back on my truck. Cut out the factory Y pipe and replaced it with an X pipe, ran duals to a Flowmaster 70 series dual in dual out muffler. I used the tips from my Ford Harley Davidson truck on my Titan. It was so loud you could not hear yourself think. We reduced the tip size from 4 inch to 2.5 inch and the truck is now as quiet as factory?????I never thought that the tips made that much difference in the sound, it did on mine..

I have the Borla sytem to and I would like it louder. The tips that come with it are resonating tips, so maybe that is quieting it down. If I put some 3'' or 3.5'' tips it sould make it louder?

Not trying to hijack the thread...

Just wanted to ask a question that someone might know the answer to. Someone bought a 3.5" Banks tip to replace the 5" Banks tip. Does anyone know where I can get this online?

THanks

The exhaust pipe itself widens out to 4 inches, you add the 5 inch polished tip onto that.

I put a Pilot Motorsport resonator tip on mine this weekend. It is a 4" polished stainless tip. Actually fits snugly inside of the flare. IMO it looks better than the Banks because it's a little smaller. But, even though it's a resonator it doesn't make much difference in the sound. It's still loud.
