Wheel Back spacing?

I know what back spacing is, and i understand the principal behind it. Here's the deal, I am getting the cst 7" lift and i am staying with 17/8 or 8 1/2 inch rims i dont want mu rims completly tucked under i want a little tire sticking out of my fender but i am hearing every one say go with 5" back spacing.
I am planning on 35/12.50 tires any suggestions.

Thanks

cst advertises the following,
"DESIGNED TO FIT 315/70/17 W/ 8" WIDE WHEELS 5" BACKSPACE "

this basically emulates the stock setup on titans that came with 18s. i believe this keeps the new setup in a similar position so there is very little change to the track and probably prevent rubbing. you definitely don't want more backspacing as the rim might hit suspension components. i didn't get the suggested setup, running 8.5s with 4.5"BS and 325/70/17s with the 8" lift. this setup rubs on hard turns and if there is a lot of suspension compression from a full load of people or hard driving.

here are some pix of how much they stick out

Very nice truck, TIsTAN. I love that type of look on lifted trucks. I want my truck to look similar. But I'm hoping to run 33x13.5 Irok radials need to decide on rims and size but I'm pretty sure I want centerlines Voltage series. But I also want 20"s or so. Money talks...

I've got a 17x9 with 4.5" BS. This backspace plus the width of the rims made my wheel stick out about an inch. You're tires shouldn't stick out as far if you stick with the stock rim width of 8" and 5" BS. Just have to clean the truck more often because of splashes from the tires sticking out a little.

Hope this helps.

Here's a pix to give you an idea.

So the backspace on these would be ? http://www.enkei.com/truck%20specs/RT6.html I am looking at either the 20x9 or the 18x8.5 Offset shows as 0 for the 18's and 12 for the 20's.....so probably no offset/backspacing for the 18's and 12 mm positive offset backspacing for the 20's ? By the way I DO like the little bit of exposed tire ....so would either of these give me that effect ?

yeah, 8s have 4"BS, 8.5s have 4.25"BS, and the 9s with 5"BS. i think they all probably end up looking the same.

35x12.50's

Can I fit 35x12.50"s on 8" wide rims or do I need wider rims with? more or less backspacing. I know the wider my rims stick out the harder it is on my wheel bearings. I want 20" rims max with 35x12.50"s but i dont want to rub any where is it possiable and if so what rim combo. I am looking at helo maxx8's...

in terms of rims, the 20s will be as far in as the stocks but will also be 1" further out. the 18s is somewhere in the middle. 9" wide with 5" of BS means there is about 4" of rim width in front of the rotors. 8.5s with a zero offset means there is the same amount of rim width in front of the rotor as there is behind (ie, 4.25"). stock is 8" with 25 offset, so there is 3" of rim width in front of the rotor. again not much difference...but have you looked at the various tire prices?!?!?

as for tires, pick a tire and compare the specs to the suggested tire size. i know BFG has it in their AT tire.

hopefully, you can find a shop that is willing to mount tires for testing. if you were not considering a local purchase, you may want to especially with the tires.
