AEM Bruteforce Vs Volant

I have narrowed it down to the two models. Any thoughts on which is better and why?

I am looking at buying the Volant Gen3 , I like this over others because of the enclosed box design which should keep the under-the-hood heat away from the intake filter.

I have the AEM but I do have some concerns about it. The pipe is attached to the heatsheild and I've found that when the engine moves or rocks it pulls on the heat sheild and it rubs part of the frame. I had to put some rubber there to quet the sound and prevent it from scraping the paint away. The other concern is the rubber touching the insulation on the hood. I have a feeling that this over time will wear away the insuation. Other that that I absolutly love my AEM. Has an incredible sound and I can definetly feel the power.

Volant fitment issues have been resolved. My Volant is kinda loud when you get on it. So if you like "loud" then you will like it.

Well I'm getting this one.

I've seen it in person and could really tell the difference. See this thread:

Just curious, why no love for the Nismo? It's also competitively priced at $250 and seems to offer the best gains... I'm looking into buying this one soon just want to make sure I make the right choice!

what about a drop in filter? I don't see much difference in intake designs myself, seems to me it must be the filter material making the difference. I mean yea the bend is different but the diameter is the same size? So why would that matter?

Yeah, I got the gen 3. I bought through streetbeat in phoenix and had them pricematch hopupracing.com. They did not have any in stock so they drop shipped from Volant to me. $255.

With the hood up you can really hear it working with a big sucking sound.

I talked to Volant before buying and they said they will have a new version in a couple of weeks. Basically a metal lid instead of the fake CF. They said there will be no performance difference so I opted to get the current one now rather than wait for cosmetics

My understanding of the nismo intake is that its basically an AEM rebadged.

I went with Volant because of the sealed box and I figured a plastic tube would stay cooler than metal.

The plastic tube will eventually get to the same temperature as a metal tube... basic physics there.

The stock set up is accordianed and has a silencing chamber which restricts flow so a change of just the filter element wouldn't produce any signifcant changes in performance or sound. The element may flow better but it is restricted by the intake design. With my K&N and Borla I can chirp the tires with 3 adults and a baby in a car seat with a 150lb cap. So I can definitely feel the low end gains butt dyno says about 10 HP over the exhaust addition.
I think with an intake and an exhaust you get a synergistic effect the sum of the 2
mods together equals more than the sum of each individually.
Example 7hp(Rated) intake + (12hp Rated) exhaust = 19hp exhaust and intake together =22 to 25 hp working in conjunction with each other. The intake alone can't work as well without the free flowing exhaust and the exhaust won't flow as well without out a free flowing intake because air in becomes air out if you get what I'm saying. Now this is just my scientific hypothesis I do not have any dyno results to back up these claims but it is a logical conjecture.
