hi all
here is the deal
i just got the borla exhust and the AEM intake
went to install them in an exhust shop
the guy there told me that there are 4 envirnment things (4 sweling pips ) before the exhust and it is better to clean them from inside (clean off the material inside the swealing tubes) tro gain more power....... i did that (sorry mother nature)....
i did also the AEM Intake installation.
the result is fantastic... in terms of sound and power
one day later i got the SES Service Engine Soon error light , i am sure that i reconnect all sensors and i am sure that everything is tight.
what could it be from?
could it be from the swealing tubes?
what should i do? i am so lost
should i reset the SES?
please help
i did searched for the subject but i couldent find anything directy reletive
Those were your catalytic convertors, and I'm guessing by "cleaning" them out you actually punched out all the catalyst. You're getting a code because the O2 sensor is sensing that they're missing. You'll need to get an O2 sensor simulator. I hope you're not in a state that requires emissions tests.
You talking about these thing? I believed those are the catylic converter, I'm suprised a shop would even messed with those. That's why every system is design as cat-back, no one wants to messed with the catylic converter.

That's a resonator. The catalytic convertors are located on the exhaust manifolds. The 4WD have a second set of cats in place of that resonator.
I have he borla and the K&N and no ses light I didn't see any swealing pipes?? just 2 cats and I left them as is we have strict emissions here in MA though they just go off the computer nowadays so I think an O2 simulator would work. Is there any significant gains I could get here?

thanks Sammy i think that what it is
basebalfanz.....the thing i cleaned in the shop are more round than these in the picture
so guys..... am i OK to drive it untel i get a O2 sensor Simulator?
what could happen if i drive it without sensor?
where to buy a good reliable sensor?
If you left the forward cats intact then you shouldn't be getting a code. Maybe you damaged the O2 sensor when you cleaned out the forward pipes. How did you clean them out? If it's not that, then you might have a minor exhaust leak. Check the flanges for leaks. Soapy water works well to check.
Gutting the rear cats will not cause an SES code unless you removed the secondary O2 sensors completely, or as Sammy mentioned, you damaged one during the gutting process. It may just be an exh flange leak causing a lean code.
Go to an autoparts store like Autozone or Checker, and have them pull the code number and then reset it for you with an OBDII scan tool (no charge). Write down the code and let us know what it is.
