Okay gentlemen,
after running several searches on the forums regarding exhausts, I've come to the following assumptions:
judging from the clips I've listened to, the Flowmaster and Borla seem the loudest, while the Gibson seems the quietest. Couldn't find any good clips of the B&B, although it looks like the B&B is the most expensive so I doubt I'll go that route anyway. I only found clips of the Flowmaster 70, which seemed pretty loud, but I read that the FM 50 is even louder. Does anybody have a Flowmaster 50 installed? Or ever heard one?
I read a number of threads that discussed some of the differences between single and dual exhausts. In general I came away with the impression that there are issues routing dual pipes around the spare tire, and some minor loss of performance in dual over single. Is this assumption correct, in your opinion?
Right now I'm leaning towards a Flowmaster 70 or a Borla exhaust, dual or single pending more research and discussion.

i dont think there is much of a problem routing the pipes around the spare, i have alot of room between the pipes and spare on my dual setup, which is a 70 series dual/in out. if there is any power loss its minor. Its really hard to tell 10hp either way.
i like the borla, but i didnt want to sink that much money into an exhaust. the 70 series isnt loud at all, barley hear it at idle and at cruise, no drone either. I mainly did this upgrade for looks and sound, wasnt really worried about power, get whatever looks and sounds good to you.

I am also looking for the right exhaust. Balancing price/performance/looks/and sound is really hard. I am surprised at the number of "half" cat backs (i.e. magnaflow and others). If you are going to the trouble to design/replace the exhaust, how could you not replace that awful 'Y' pipe? I am also disappointed in the dual-rear exit systems (like Borla), as the long pipe passes quite low behind the rear differential, in plain view. IMO, this is unsightly.
Since the titan has a decent stock sound, I have been thinking about fixing the 'Y' and adding a SS Tip. Has anyone done this? Results?
one of our esteemed members went the route of going banks exhaust and affixing a gibson SS tip on and he said it was the perfect blend... have you thought of going that route?
I personally cant even fathom the fact of going with a direct bolt on system anymore! I had the Gibson extreme dual setup and it was a great sound, but no one could hear it(good tone, too quiet for me). So i went with true dual glasspacks. going from one almost directly to the other, i noticed a considerable gain in power. at first i was a little surprised at how quiet it was, but after a few months of letting it get broke in, its about as loud as you would expect...except there is still no drone, unless you have no music/passenger to overpower it(loud girlfriend)!! even on the highway. going through town with it echoing off the buildings at low speeds accelerating its an awesome sound and its loud enough to say "get and stay out of my way". but once you get up to speed, its not bad at all. and the gas milage is better as well. i went from about 14-15 on average to about 17, 18 on a good day back an forth to work. id recomend it to anyone.

The 70 flowmaster is about the same loudness as the stock exhaust. Could not tell that much of a difference in sound. The 50 is just a bit louder but tolerable. You will defintely here the 40 flowmaster coming. Once my Titan is broken in, I will probably go with the 50 series flowmaster setup.

Titanicus,
I have a Flowmaster 50 on my truck, and it's got a great sound. It's louder up to about 2200 RPM, then it's about the same as the stock. Cold idle is louder, and hot idle is only a little louder. I looked at doing duals, but I'm an old fashioned mechanic and the routing for the left dual makes just no sense with all the detours it has to make.
I went for a dual-in, single-out with 3" on the output. Gives it a nice rumble, and I have noticed that the torque converter doesn't unlock when you need to accelerate mildly at freeway speeds. The truck also gets to converter-lock at a much lower speed now.

I got the Banks Monster exhaust through the group buy a couple months ago. The tip was a little too big for me. I had the end of the exhaust chopped and an extension on the 3" piping welded where that flange was. Now I have a 3.5" SS Gibson tip on the end. Looks a lot better to me plus it got rid of the drone I was experiencing. It's perfect now!
I have the Gibson Single Sweptside, and love it. It's louder than stock, with a deep tone, and then really gets wicked above 3500 RPM. I also feel a difference in performance.

Mine is a FM 40 single in dual out 3' pipes with 3 1/2 magnaflow slash cut tips. It resonates between 1800 and 2000 rpm but everyone says it sounds awesome. I got used to the sound and I just turn up the stereo!
