I got a defective one, you know the 2 places that you screw the bolts in (it secures the MAF)....well yeah on one of mine there must have been a bubble in the plastic because the part that you thread the bolt into is showing and it doesnt tighten all the way down. I talked to AFE and they are shipping me out another tube tomorrow or the day after. I also need to try your lid tightening trick cause I got the vibration at 2800. But man I can feel the performance and it makes the engine roar. Makes me smile.
Installed mine today after work, no problems on the installation. Instructions were good enough to get the job done in 40 minutes from start to finish. The newer kits, at least mine, had screws that were long enough to attach the MAF sensor. Only imperfection that I could see was that one of the built-in bolts that holds the sensor in wasn't completely sealed up (needle point sized hole) but it didn't affect the tightening of the screws.
First impressions, looks awesome, filter is HUGE (TITAN sized), no whistle, no vibration. Will see what she can do after I reset the ECU tomorrow and GIVE HER HELL! Happy with my purchase and glad I got the AFE. I had no fitment problems whatsoever.....and its comforting to know that if I do have a problem sparkplugs.com will take care of me till I'm happy.
Oh yeah, thanks whistler for setting up the GB. It is a great intake!
OK, I got mine on today. This is my 1st performance mod so i wasn't sure what to expect. The install went well, no problems with pin holes, screws not fitting, or anything. I got no whistle or vibration that I can hear. It sounds like I flipped the air cleaner lid on a really BIG BLOCK, and it hisses like an angry snake at WOT. The butt dyno says its working, but that might be all the new sounds playing tricks with me.
Tomorrow the Zoomers goes on and I will reset the computer.
These group buys are great!
My Borla is sitting in the garage as of today and it's absolutely KILLIN' me to not have it on right now
Looks like Sunday will be the best I can do.
I'll be done with mods for a while as the rest of my "spendable" money goes to hunting from here on out...
With spring.... comes more

Got done with my install on Friday and I'll say that I was very impressed with the intake kit and fit. I didn't have any trouble with the install, although the instructions kinda sucked. I had to place the aluminum lid on the concrete and mold it by pressing it into the ground to get a tighter fit on the box. The performance gains are awesome. I can really feel it pull at full throttle and enjoy the quick acceleration during normal driving. I also believe that it's much quieter on the highway. The kit works well with my dual exhaust Borla XPs. The sound is great. 9 out of 10 stars.
Installed mine on Friday. Crappy instructions that are not really needed, quality seems good, wish it fit closer to fender wall (lid and box), overall decent from the cosmetic/install perspective.
First test drive could "feel" some more power. Throttle input and engine response seemed a little off. Deeper exhaust sound, much louder at WOT and a slight vibration between 2-3 grand.
I immediatly thought that the source of the vibration was the rear attactment point for the air shield. On the OEM there is a rubber isolator and the AFE simply bolts up.
I reset the ECU, took about 15 tries, I was waiting too long after turing the ignition "on". Drove it the next morning. More responsive throttle, more power, throttle seemed more in tune with the engine, a big improvement over the night before. Vibration was gone although it was small to begin with. If you have not reset your ECU you should.
Overall very satisfied. I cannot stay out of the throttle. I was tired of waiting for the fabled Gen 3 Volant and I am glad I went with AFE. It compliments the Gibson very well.

Hey guys, whatssup? Thanks for introducing us to this great forum, we are now one of your sponsors! From what I hear there have been a few problems with defective parts in some of the intake systems you've received. I apologize greatly if you have experienced this and I'm sorry to say i'm not too happy with AFE's quality control at this point. It sounds like their customer service is doing a pretty good job taking care of you, but please remember if there's any problem that AFE doesn't fix immediatly, you'll be completely taken care of by SparkPlugs.com. If there's any problems that haven't been resolved, please feel free to post it in our sponsor section or email or pm me.
thanks again for your support and participation in this group buy!

Thanks Natasha. My AFE arrived faster than I had originally thought it would, and I had no problems. All the parts were in perfect shape. Thanks again.
Definitely noticed improvement today, which was day three after the install/ECU reset. But today was the first day I really had the opportunity to drive my normal commute and experience the same drive with the new mod. All said, I'm happy. However, I do get a little bit of whistling at around 1800 and some heavy duty vibration at 3K-ish. The first I think might be due to the "holes" in the metal box (corners). The vibration I'm almost positive is due to the front bottom corner vibrating against the wheel well metal. I need to put some kinda rubber under there.

You sure the vibration isn't from the lid? Try driving w/o the lid to see if it goes away. That's what a few of us have found to be the cause.....usually between 2800-3000 rpm. Initially I put some thin weather stripping around the lid which eliminated the vibration, but since have removed it and installed several small adhesive-backed bumpers/protectors. So far, so good.
Natasha.....I think AFE needs to address this problem, maybe include a thin rubber insert for the lid...it's not difficult to fix, but should be addressed by AFE.
I did mention it to them when I installed my kit, but they said they were not aware of the issue, although this was before they had sold many kits. Any chance you could relay this concern to AFE for us??
Thanks, and welcome to Titantalk....glad to have you as a sponsor!

I never got that vibration, I just took my time getting the lid nice and snug and haven't had any issues. One thing I did want to ask everyone who has the AFE; does your lid make contact with the filter? First time I put the lid on, I actually had to put some slight pressure on it to get it to seat because it was resting on the filter. Seems that is cutting off a little bit of surface area for air to be drawn through. Maybe I'll try running it with no cover.
-overall: great
-sparkplugs.com: great price, recieved product faster than anticipated.
-fit and finish: intake tube did not match up perfectly with the throttle body but otherwise fit/finish was great. i installed weatherstripping around the inner aspect of lid right off the bat as it did seem like there might be a little rattle without it. polished metal is always neater looking than plastic but the price to performance ratio (with the group buy) on this kit was exactly what i wanted.
-noise: No whistle or vibration. slightly louder at idle, much louder, in a good way with hard acceleration. love the whoosh.
-butt dyno: well, what can i say, my butt need not apply for a position at any of the local dyno shops. i *expected* no change in sensation, i got a subtle increase in felt acceleration. no change in "seat of your pants" feel though.
-instructions: pretty awful. many details missing. if i had done this before install would have been 30-40 minutes tops. between my inexperience and these instructions it took almost 1.5 hrs. i know i'm an idiot but the the instructions didn't help lol.
-other: initially felt increased vibration in peddle at 2000-3000 rpm but went away over the course of a 10 minute drive.
if i wanted the best looking, most tightly put together option i would not have purchased a titan in the first place. however, i wanted good quality with great performance and i feel like that is what i got in this intake. 9/10. would be higher in the tube matched up perfectly with the engine and the instructions were complete.

I put some weatherstripping under the box where it made contact with the wheelwell right off the bat 'cause it looked like that could be a problem. No vibration that I've noticed so far. I took some time on the lid making sure it was on tight too. I'm looking for some small channel stripping (kinda like the stuff that comes with the Bushwacker flares) to put around the lid to seal it better and prevent any vibration or whistle that may occur later. Haven't found what I'm looking for yet.
Sammy....My lid is pretty close to the filter, but it doesn't touch.
