ProScan v2.03 for $99

Is it a good purchase?
Includes ISO interface, OBD II and serial cables and the newest ProScan version 2.0 software.

I think it's worth every penny as a "local" shop was going to charge me 40 big ones to diagnose my SES light.

I have not received my order yet but their web page ( www.myscantool.com/index.html ) indicates multitudes of power (HP/Torque, 1/4 mile, air intake, a/f, etc.) performance monitors and diagnostic (SES) capability. This is my first venture into the field of auto electronics so I am optimistically curious.

I don't know if the website is updated but it says for today only 99.00 and has a 25 Aug 05 date on it.

Spend $300 on a used PC laptop. I have often contemplated the "switch" to apple but there are too many things I do with my PC that is not availible on mac. Most of which will not be listed due to state and federal laws

I think you guys will find out that everything will work except the dyno feature....or I should say it may work, but will be very inaccurate. I have the Autoenginuity scan tool with SpeedTracer performance software, and the dyno feature will not work due to the slow update time with our ecm in the Titan. This was confirmed by AE's tech guy I spoke with. On mine, the dyno performance numbers were really high...which I would've loved to believe.....but something tells me I'm not really making 1000 hp! Everything else works great...scan/data logging, 0-60, 1/4 mile times, VE testing, etc. The Proscan looks similar, except the price, which is much cheaper than the AE I have. Plus the AE will interface with all protocols, so I can use it on any OBDII vehicle.

Hopefully, I'm wrong about the dyno feature with the Proscan, but just wanted to let you guys know that it probably won't work correctly.

Im sorry, I still didnt understand what this proscan does? Can we change things the computer does on this? like set diffferent setting like if we took off the cats on our trucks could we program it to think it had em instead of using O2s sims? or what does it do exactly?

No, it can't do any of the above. It's for monitoring various sensor inputs such as, fuel trims, timing advance, throttle pos, O2 sensor voltage, IAT, ECT, etc. You can read and clear diagnostic codes (CEL/SES lights). These are great for trouble diagnosis, as you can data log all these points, and more. Some of these scan tools, like the one mentioned in this thread, come with add'l performance software that allows you to test acceleration times, simulated chassis dyno, etc. It won't change any ecu parameters like a flash programmer can.

Warning

I ordered this.

They charged me for it.

I never received it.

I got ONE email saying it was shipped.

I've tried NUMEROUS times to contact them, no phone number so email has been my only option.

Their lack of response tells me they couldn't care less.

I'm giving them till COB today to make it right or the full wrath of my pissed off consumerism will rain down upon them.

Don't buy anything from these guys till you hear from me

Len

It took 4 weeks for my order to arrive. I did not order the USB to serial port adapter (my fault) so I have not tested the product. I am not happy with the long shipping wait.

They're telling me it was already delivered to me. Which it wasn't. The fact that they don't have a freaking phone number to call is REALLY tweaking me!

Working on a way around that though.
