Thank you everyone for the above posts. They're all positive and supportive
I drove the Titan this AM to work with the "rough ram air box" and my "butt dyno" tells me that the engine loves the "cold air" it's being forced to breath. Improved throttle response from 20mph on up. Truck zips in and out of Philly traffic like a "3000 pound sportscar"

I'll update this thread again when the final finish (carbon fiber) is done.

Give me a heads up when you are going to the track, I might try to make it out.

gr8: maybe a retarded question but....what about water being sucked in while driving in the rain? A potential problem or not?

Thats not his address, that's where some jerk he doesn't like much lives. when he feels like causing them grief, he just berates some big mean guy on this site and presto, big mean guy shows up at the jerks door.

A good possibility but no worse than any functional "hood scoop". I'm still brainstorming and researching an additional internal design on how to trap water without reducing the ram air benefit. I also think it is safer with less exposure to water and rain compared to an intake located below the bumper (Volant 2nd gen).

An additional info I've found: there is a 3% HP loss for every 20 degree F increase in ambient air temperature. So if this is prevented or better yet reversed so the air intake is 20 degrees cooler, a 278 HP Titan can (possibly) gain 8.34 horses instead of losing them. Is this math right? This does not take into account the positive pressure of the "ram" effect forced into the box (unmeasurable unless in motion).

According to what you've said, power would remain at 278 instead of dropping off to a heat soaked 269.xx

True and yes if the ambient temp is maintained.
But what I was thinking of the other end of this spectrum. If the temp is reduced, say by 20 degrees, is there a corresponding increase in HP?
Reason I think this, is that ALL "cold air intake" manufacturers claim invrease in HP's in their aftermarket intakes. They claim: more air and cooler denser air makes HP.

I just spent 15 minutes going through my old Thermodynamics class notes. I remember specifically talking about the ideal temperature for a 4 stroke engine to use to achieve maximum power. I couldn't find it but I am pretty darn sure that it is somewhere between 65-68 deg. Far.

Once you drop below that temperature, there is no more to be gained.

How about something like this?
